Need opinions on vacation dates

Well I thought our vacation was all set for January 13 through the 23rd. Just heard from hubby's elderly parents that they are going with their other family in December so do not want to go back so soon! Wish everyone would of thought of that BEFORE we booked.
Well we have two choices go without them. (sounds good to me!) or
reschedule for February 17th through the 27th.

So... my question is ... What are the differences if any in the dates? Any differences in weather or anything else significant? We went in early January last year and it was pure perfection for weather. A little windy but that is it. We just are going to relax. We only want to go to Tulum and of course SHOP.. My Dad and hubby want to go fishing again. With those things in mind, any differences in the two available dates?

Any help would be appreciated. I have until Monday to decide. OF course in changing dates there is a slight increase in price for February.

Thanks

On Average February weather is slightly warmer than January. And February is slightly drier with half the average rainfall of January. Of-course the problem with averages is that your chosen week could be above or below average. However, all else being equal I prefer February to January (on average).

If you go 2/17-2/27, you'll be leaving right around the beginning of the Peep Fest 2006 events (which are slated for 2/27-3/4, mostly). Since many peeps will be arriving before then (including me - arriving on 2/25), perhaps you'll be able to meet and share a cerveza or two with a few of us loonies on Saturday/Sunday before you leave.

Well that is 2 to 1 vote. I have to admit, February sounds a bit better, but when compared to NOT going with the whiners that holds alot of promise also.
You could give these people everything anyone would want and they would complain and demand more from hotel staff, restaurants etc. It is embarrasing.

A chance to be part of the biggest PeepFest (or is this the First PeepFest? I'm getting my Fests and Meets mixed up)... anyway, to be part of PeepFest2006--I'd go with that option!

No brainer. Kill the old folks - they're gonna' die anyway - bury 'em in the flower beds.

Take the inheritance and split for Peep Fest 2006. Next question?

Well, seeing as I would never, ever, ever go on vacation with my in-laws... not willingly that is... I say "you snooze, you lose"... and you should take your vacation as originally planned. If Keith and I changed our plans every single time a family member or friend changed their mind... we'd never leave the house. It's your life and your precious vacation time... do what is right for you and not for someone else. If you go as planned, perhaps next time they'll take the commitment a little bit more seriously knowing that you will go without them. After a few not so pleasant vacation planning episodes... we now opt to simply tell family and friends... "this is where we're going and when we'll be there in the event you would like to join us"... and leave it at that. Sometimes people join us... however, more often than not they don't because they just can't make a darn commitment (or just don't want to go on vacation with us in the first place but didn't want to hurt our feelings... so we've given them the perfect out).

I never found there to be any dramatic difference in the weather conditions from January to February. I would be happy going either month... however, given the choice of the two...my vote would be for January... primarily because I'm not big on crowds and January tends to be less busy than February.

As always, D make good points. The last three years, we've travelled to Playa from mid Feb to mid March. Though the weather didn't vary dramatically, we have found a noticeable increase in the temperature - and often the humidity - over that period. Not that it became unpleasant, but the change was definitely there. We prefer to travel at that time because much sooner and you're still getting over the post Christmas nuttiness. Also, you tend to avoid the traditionally bad weather up our way in Feb, and even when you return to what is still winter - and trust me, mid March is still winter in Manitoba - the end is in sight, and you can endure it.

I would rather not go than go with someone like that. You can be witness to the "ugly american" syndrome whenever you go, but to be hangin' with it would suck!

I totally agree. Never change your plans because of some relative. We to are going January 11 -21, 2006. Look forward to meeting up with you there. This is our first time and can hardly wait :-)

Good luck!
