Gone Native...
When I was in law school, I made friends with a nice, normal seeming girl during my last year. After we graduated, she got a contract job doing depositions for litigation involving potash in some small city in the interior of Canada. For whatever reason, this city was the hot tub capital of the world, and the entire social life of the city centered around their hot tubs. Long story short, after her twelve week assignment was over, she stayed in this city, having "gone native" and was never heard from again...
I´m facing a similar problem. Im scheduled to return to Houston tomorrow. For better or for worse, after a week in PDC I am also ready to "go native." I enjoyed reading posts on the board and sharing posts with yall in the months leading up to my trip, but Ive got to tell you... After a week here, I can see why many of you have settled here. I have never found an area of the world that is closer to my perception of "paradise on earth." Its taken me exactly one week to realize that this is, without any doubt, one of the coolest places on earth - and my wife and I have traveled to a lot of places around the world! The people are great... We have enjoyed chatting with Joe of Java Joe in the morning and Rosanna of Dona´s Empanada in the afternoon and evening. The locals are all very proud (rightfully so) of their beautiful city, and make excellent hosts. The ex-pats are all friendly and welcoming. I cant think of a single reason not to live here except for my law practice in Houston. Ive already talked to mi esposa about retiring here, but in the meantime, there is one thing I know... I´ll be back. Again and again... Adios mi amor, mi ciudad de Playa del Carmen! Hasta luego! |

It's soooooo much slower-paced, and relaxed Of course, everytime I mention this my 12 yo FREAKS and says "NO, they don't have hockey in Mexico!!" I tell him maybe that's what he could do when he grows up, open a hockey rink in Mexico ![]() |

Hmmm...I'm gonna guess Ontario or British Columbia. But leaning towards southern Ontario for the Hot Tub Capital of Canada. Am I getting warmer?Shawn |
