Here's what I want to know, if your credit card company says you're coverd, Have you ever actually had to USE your credit card insurance in Mexico?

So, have you had an accident, and what happened when you didn't have the full coverage insurance offered by the car retnal company, just your cedit card?

I know this is off the question, but from where we stand, a significant percentage of folks visiting here should ask themselves the more basic question, "Renting a car -- is it worth it?" It's so easy to get around just by walking within town, and so easy to set up transfers to and from the airport, and so easy to get transportation to various sites and tours and such, and moreover if you don't rent a car then you have neither this worry nor the general stress that may arise from other driving-related issues such as possible tickets or police stops or just the very different driving customs here.

Just my $.02 worth after seeing a lot of people rent a car and leave it in the same place for the better part of a week (many of them mentioning themselves that they would have been better off not renting).

We only rent if taking tours/excursions. Coba, Chitzen Itza, etc. Anything under an hour we bus it. We prefer to go on our own schedule compared to the limitations of a tour bus to go to these different areas.

We're going to Cancun for the day this time, don't know if we'll rent or bus it. Probly just bus it.

I just got off the phone with Visa, collision coverange for the rental only. 3rd person liability, any injuries, other vehilces, nothing.

I'll take the insurance from the rental, no question now.

I hope that your luck keeps up. If you did get into and accident or you hit someone - mostly likely pay up or go straight to jail. That would probably be your only two options and neither one sounds that good to me. Again, hope that you luck holds up.

Laura,

Did you do a search? (Post 5 on this thread).

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->Yes everything worked as advertised.

I've used cheaptickets before to rent cars. They quote prices for many of the rental companies, Hertz, Avis, Dollar etc. This is from their website:

INSURANCE/COVERAGE
THIRD PARTY LIABILITY COVERAGE IS INCLUDED IN THE
BASE RATE WITH A LIMIT OF USD 35000.00. THIS
.
ADDITIONAL THIRD PARTY LIABILITY -ALI- MAY BE
PURCHASED FOR USD 10.90 PER DAY WHICH INCREASES
THE TOTAL COVERAGE TO USD 450000.00.
