Minnesota peeps, need a little help
Hubby, kids & I are coming your way during the July 4 weekend. I am assuming there will be a multitude of fireworks around. Anyone know where we can partake in some. We are staying in the general area of the little known mall you call Mall of America
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You'll have plenty of options...DT Mpls or DT St. Paul have great fireworks. You could probably sit on the top of the parking ramp at the Mall and see fireworks 360 degrees around you.
Your best bet would probably be to take the lightrail downtown Mpls - leaves from the lower level east side of the Mall of America...$2.00 or so per person. This will take you right downtown only a few blocks north to the river and great fireworks. If you need more specifics let me know...would be more than happy to get you detailed directions etc. Becky BTW - FINALLY someone comes to MN for a vacation..or is it just a drive through

It is a mini-vacation as we can't get away for long due to hubby's business. No offense but I'd rather be going to Playa but I haven't won the lottery so Minneapolis it is.
What would the ramp at the mall be like? I'm thinking we'd get both cities fireworks, how cool would that be? I'm not too sure what we're gonna do but I'll pm you if I need more info. Thanks. |

I think the top floor of the ramp is open, but not 100% sure...never had to drive up that far. You would definitely be able to see both cities fireworks plus all the other cities too. It's probably not the best venue, but it would do in a pinch...as would the top floor of the parking ramp at the airport, but that would cost you money. Will you have a vehicle to drive or are you cabbing/light railing it? Just let me know what more info. you'd like. |

http://www.tasteofmn.org/ Been many times, last time I went a bit disapponted in the food selection, but I am on a "eat healthy" lifestyle now. It can be really crowded but a lot of fun if your into people watching. Fireworks are nothing to sneeze at either Scott |

Sitting on the Hennepin Avenue bridge in downtown Minneapolis is probably slightly less crowded than going to Taste of Minnesota, and watching them from the Wabasha Street bridge in downtown St Paul. Either will give you an abundance of quality fireworks. As I recall, Taste of Minnesota has a fireworks show each evening of the event, just after 10pm...
For a slightly more quaint setting, head to the St Croix River which separates Minnesota from Wisconsin... both Hudson (WI) and Stillwater (MN) are good choices for fireworks. If you've never been to Stillwater, get there early and experience the entire town. These days, I usually attend an annual July 4th party on the St Croix River between Hudson and Afton and time my departure to catch the displays from the various communities along I-94... Been to taste of mn and it is fun....very crowded but fun. Stillwater is also lots of fun....town can be crowded and parking at a premium. Both have several live bands and good food. We usually head to the cabin up North where we watch the fireworks over the lake. Most of the small lake towns have their own celebrations with a local twist.
