Short vacation in Sardinia (Italy) - trip report with pics
Hey guys, this is just a teaser as I have to go to the office soon. More pics and the trip report will follow within the next days. Just one pic as a teaser....
![]() ![]() Let me just tell you that I had a great time. Got my Advanced Open Water diving certificate and was even able to do one dive doing underwater photography with an instructor who is as foto-addict as I am . He let me use my own camera (a Canon A95 which a lot of you have too) and it was amazing how clear some of the pictures are even though we went as deep as 75 feet. More to follow soon...

andiline! beautiful pic!
in the mid 90's i was in sardinia (fam is half italian) and at about 3am was walking around (yes, a little drunk on grappa and slivovitz) and heard some fantastic music coming from a tavern. Alas, found the sounds and entered this really cool bar. Lo and behold, 3 members of the gypsy kings were playing with some locals. They handed out hand instruments and i grabbed a tambourine. I ended up on a table banging the side of my body until close to 8am!!!!!! The next afternoon at the beach, after I awoke, the entire side of my body (hips and thighs) were black and blue (VERY BRUISED) from hitting my body so hard.....a great memory! hahaha! ![]() Lets see some more pics! Congratulations on the dive cert! |

Well, what you can't see on the pic is that the only reason nobody is IN that water is that on monday morning three were hundreds of jellyfish...
They disappeared after an hour but that was too late for me to take a last swim beofre going home. Here is another tease.... ![]() ![]() Will write more this evening. Andrea |

Okay, guys, here we go. Arrived after an uneventful 2 hours flight at Olbia airport where my parents were already expecting me. As my suitcase was the 3rd one I was out in a minute and off we went. Santa Teresa Gallura which is at the most northern end of Sardinia is a little bit more than an hour away from the airport.
Arrived in Santa Teresa soon, settled in my room after having greeted everyone in the hotel (I've known them for 27 years now) and then we went to the beach. ![]() ![]() I went a little bit on the rocks just to have a look around. Everything was so familiar as I've know this place for many years and I had immediately the feeling that I'd never left. The evenings were a little bit cold though and the water temperature was about 60 ° F/15 ° C. The next day I went diving in the morning and the afternoon. My instructor was a girl from Rome. There were other divers in the morning and they all were fun. From the base we had to go to the port with a van which was more than fun too. You couldn't close the windows any more, the driver's door wouldn't open and when Vittorio (the owner of the dive base) wanted to blow the horn he shouted 'Alberto, blow the horn!' and Alberto cried 'mmmmmp, mmmmp!' We had some good laughs... The two first dives were unspectacular as I wanted to get some more experience and so we practiced most of the time. The next morning I went to the base and started to put my stuff together like you do before every dive. I saw a guy with white hair and a cripled arm but didn't think about it twice. We all worked and then after about 10 or 15 minutes I suddenly thought 'Hey, this cripled arm looks familiar!' I went to the guy looked into his face and said 'You aren't Manuel Muzzu, aren't you?' The guy looks up, cries 'ANDREA!' and everybody else looked puzzled as we were suddenly in each others arms. The solution to this is that I've known Manuel for more than 20 years. We were in a group of friends from Venice, Rome, Sardinia and Germany who for a couple of years spent the summer holidays together in Santa Teresa. I hadn't seen him for 10 years but I hadn't expected to see him this year either. It was good so I had news from my old friends too. And Manuel was my dive instructor for the next days which helped me a lot as I trusted him just because I've known him for ages. And btw. he is a really good instructor!!!In the evenigs I was always very tired and rarely had time to enjoy the view from the balcony in front of my hotel room: ![]() ![]() The other coast you see on the first pic is Corsica, another mediterranean island which belongs to France. So the days went by with diving, making homework for the dives (to get my Advanced Open Water certificate I had to do some theory). The dives were great. The divers among you know that you have two mandatory dives (navigation and buoyancy) and you can chose three more. Two of my 'choices' were not really my choice as Vittorio chose for me (wreck diving and deep diving) but the third one was underwater photograpy. That's what I did with another instructor on saturday morning. He let me use my own camera and I was more than surprised how sharp most of the pics came out. I hadn't expected that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The grey thing you see in the middle with the white stuff on it is an oyster by the way.. ![]() ![]() And this is the coast in front of which we did the pics to a depth of up to 75 feet. ![]() The rocks are all granite and you find a lot of them in Sardinia. I love that island... ![]() More to follow within the next days...
