The latest information on Sunscape Puerto Aventuras 5* All-inclusive resort
Well, I would like to start on a very high note. I have three words for you - DO NOT GO!<O:p</O:p
My wife and I spent the last week there. We have been to Cancun numerous times and stayed in different hotels - Continental Villas Plaza, RIU Cancun - just to name a few. Last year we went to Dominican Iberostar Punta Cana All-inclusive twice. This time we decided to try something different and went to Rivera Maya. We regretted our decision. The only bright spot was the Caribbean Sea itself (not even the beach).<O:p</O:p I am going to be brief.<O:p</O:p 1. The beach itself looked like a little puddle (see the image). There was no beach as you would normally expect to see. You cannot walk along the beach - there is no such thing. The sand is mixed with crashed stone - so you need water shoes. We counted the beach cabanas and the number was 20 for the whole beach. The result – every morning we had to run early to reserve one otherwise we would be getting fried in the sun for the whole day. 2. The hotel itself was still under construction. The stairs that we used every day to go to the beach, restaurants, etc. was not in the best shape (see images below) This was not a 5* hotel quality, I am sorry. It was more like 2 1/2 *. Pool area and the bar were OK though. The elevator could not be called from our fifth floor (by the way this is the main elevator - see for yourself how it looks): 3. Restaurants. All-inclusive means that I could go and eat any time they were open and any food that was available at the time. That's my understanding. I guess at Sunscape they see it in a different way. How about a situation when you go for a dinner at 8 PM and suddenly only sides and the soup are left (no meat, no fish). It actually happened to us at this 5* hotel. The selection of food was extremely poor! You go for a dinner (when they still have some food left) and there are 5-6 trays with the hot meals. That's it! You could get a pork, a fish, or a seafood shish-kebob. Three selections. The rest was sides or cold cuts and cheese. Not to mention that every time you walk out of the restaurant (The World Cafe) with the burned oil smell on you. 4. Construction garbage is right on the beach (see the images below - pictures were taken from the beach towards the buildings). 4. The first night we were there the central air conditioner went down (so much for the renovation). I woke up in the puddle of sweat. Good thing we were at the beach while they were fixing it. So, the bottom line - NEVER AGAIN! No more Sunscape 5* hotels for us.<O:p</O:p Last edited by nazarenk; 06-22-2005 at 01:38 AM. |

We were there at the beginning of March and had the same opinion about this (supposedly) Five Star resort. We are still in a battle with Apple Vacations over it (false advertising).
I am sorry to hear that they haven't gotten their act together yet. |

thank you for posting the pictures....It is sad to pay for what you thought was a 5 star resort. I had heard on other boards about the sunscape and one of the things that scares me off of Apples' square deal is the result of being sent to this property!
I am sorry about your vacation and hope you were able to make the best of it anyway. |
