Question related to caffeine and running for any of you java drinkers...
Long story short, but up until 10 days ago, I had consumed 2 cups of coffee in my entire life. I would generally do 1 diet coke in the afternoon maybe 3 days per week, and that was it for caffeine intake. Well, after I got in my car wreck last November, I started taking some anti-anxiety meds that have worked wonders to mellow me out, but make me very drowsy! I got to the point where I was having 3 diet cokes a day, including one right away in the AM or I couldn't wake up very easily at all.
I decided all that aspartame was bad so I have switched to coffee. One cup right when I wake up (unless I'm going to run or lift in which case I have it after), another one after lunch and I feel awesome! I love it!
Anyway, normally I like to run first thing in the AM, right after I wake up. Nothing to eat, just some water and stretching and I'm good to go. But, I have been a bit sleepy on my morning runs. So, should I have some coffee right when I wake up and then run 1/2 hour later. What recommendations / experiences have you had? I suppose I should get experiment but I want to see what has worked for others.
Thanks!
JG
