That's alright... buzz in with the correct answer at anytime. Looks like you're our new champion.

I have azaleas. Now how come my azaleas don't look like any of the azaleas in those pictures? Will rhodododododendronds grow in our heat?

I don't know SKM. Rhodos were brought here by the English & they thrive so well that they are now considered a "native" B.C. plant and grow wild. They're also evergreen so they are a welcome contrast to the grey skies all winter here.

Winter? What the--? What is THAT??

I'll have to research those rhodos... I've heard hibiscus and some other tropical stuff works in this heat! And I do love crepe (crape?) myrtles.

yah, I thought I recognized the scenery too, mofi. Not the house, but the general greenery looked like our fair lower mainland.

Man, when will summer start, eh guys?? Oh..wait...the sun is shining! Oh, no, wait...it's gone. No..! There it is! Oh..nope, it's gone again. Story of our lives up here these days.

Guess I can't complain after my nice week last week in Osoyoos.

Have one in my backyard we planted last fall...it was doing great until this week...beetles have invaded our neighborhood and all my trees are covered with them

My leyland cypress and my japenese plum and my lilac all have their leaves nibbled on...I just bought some sort of spray that you hook up to the hose and hopefully that will do the trick. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Char,

Rhodos are "understory" shrubs....meaning they prefer to grow in filtered sunlight under the cover of something else, such as a big 'ol tree. If they can't be under something, the like a north exposure. What they do NOT like is full sun! Over time, they will shrivel up and wilt away if placed in full sun, and considering your in Texas...I can't even imagine you being able to grow rhodies there unless they are in complete shade and have access to plenty of water! And even then, I dunno.

I had two that I had specially ordered because I wanted burgundy, not the common purple/pink you usually find here. I planted them in an east exposure, just getting morning sun and they did OK in spring, fall and winter...but come summer, those poor babies were a mess! The next spring, I moved them to the north side of the house and there they live, happily ever after!

I'm going to get some pics of my gardens tomorrow, as long as it doesn't rain again. Wish I could show you my rhodies but they're done flowering. I *might* have an old pics I can scan of them though, I'll look.

BZZZZZZ... wrong answer... next plant, please.... I have nothing but full sun and more full sun. A few teeny shade spots right next to the house where I plant some impatiens, but no room for a big leafy plant like that. And no trees for them to hide under.

I guess those landscaping/plant zone diagrams know what they're talking about.

As I said...I'm going to take some pictures tomorrow...but when I was looking for pics of my rhodies, I found these...which will be pretty funny compared to what you'll see when I take new ones.

This is our new house a week after we moved in, 11 years ago:

These are pics of my first attempt at a garden, 10 years ago:

Now WAIT until you see what has become of this tiny garden! Tomorrow.
