Garden and Yard Photos
There was a request in the Education thread for some flower and yard photos. I decided to start a new thread with the hope that many people would post photos - especially those landscape architect types down there in Texas
. Here are some of our yard, and I will hunt down some more later. Tommy didn't see some of this cause they were done before he was here ![]() And the prettiest flower in the garden |

cool pics Ron, everything is so lush up there... totally different from what I have to deal with. I need to find a link to I guy up your way that does incredible work creating natural hot springs and Scandinavian decks, amazing work in an amazing area
gotta eat dinner, then I can post a few of the "work in progress" down here in S. Texas. It's getting hot here so the perennials are booming hard but the grass is takin a beating |

Wow, beautiful yard, Ron!!
(Now I don't WANT to post pics of mine...) I've neglected our yard because we've been getting our new roof done (which means dirt and crap EVERYWHERE in the yard) and John dug up half the yard to redo the drainage tile. We did plant a small vegie garden just for the kids because they wanted to grow one for themselves. And John threw up a quick two posts for my Mexico Prison Hammock, nothing pretty, but functional. I'll try to take some photos that don't show too much of the crappy part of the yard and post them. ![]() |

Thank you! I love seeing beautiful landscaping. We are in the midst of a new project ourselves. We are removing all the landscape rock around the foundation of out home and replacing it with mulch. Want a more natural, woodland look. Also removing the railroad tie retaining wall and replacing it with large boulders. Should be a long process but hopefully done before fall. Put in a shade garden last summer on one side of the house...lots of ferns, hostas, lungworts, purple palace(coral bells). If I ever figure out how to get my pictures on here I'll post them!

Great idea for a thread Ron- your yard is gorgeous! Lush is right.
We are in zone three way up in Saskatoon, so that limits the amount of variety of plants we can landscape with. Here is a pic of the outside of our home, there is an island bed in front and another bed that follows along the outside of the lawn. This pic is from the first summer we bought the house, three years ago- it was mainly low-maintenance shrubs like potentilla, lilac, mugo pine, spirea, roses, a couple mockorange, and some low spreading cedars and junipers. I have dug up a few shrubs though and replaced them with flowering perennials and other, more interesting perennials- a silver mound sage and a blue ornamental grass, some lilies and daylilies and tulips for spring (we don't have to dig them up and freeze them here, bonus!). I will have to take another pic later this summer when everything is in bloom- we have had another late, cool spring/summer here- my roses just started blooming this past WEEK! ![]() |

And here is the back yard...with the ever-present Canadian deck and firepit for parties.
Not a great pic, sorry! You can't even see the landscaping, it was a pic of the house we took to show relatives when we first moved. But there is four beds in the back yard- and three threes- a Mountain Ash, Shubert chokecherry (with purple leaves in summer?) and a Siberian Elm (what were they thinking? trash tree- we are cutting it down next spring). Also a small bed with more juniper and a dogwood, and the other beds have roses again, daylilies, Flowering Russian Almond shrubs, liatris, shasta daisies, delphiniums, purple coneflower (echinacea), false sunflowers, ferns, lily of the valley, Autumn Joy sedum, chrysanthemums, pinks, phlox, perennial dusty miller, and others. I will take more later this summer and post if this thread is still alive! I love gardening! |
