Texas Toobin' Necklaces
![]() ![]() ![]() After consulting with Scott (sctx) about it and hearing that perhaps a troops-related charity would be a good idea, I've chosen the Fisher Houses as the recipient of the funds collected. The link takes you to a site for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Click on "donations" and then scroll down to "Fisher Houses" and click. In short, the Fisher Houses are residences where family members of injured troops can stay to be close to their loved ones while they are undergoing medical care for their injuries. To me this charity represents one that is neither "pro" nor "con" regarding the role of the United States in what's happening. No matter your feelings about the involvement in Iraq, I can't see anyone debating the benefits of having family members nearby while an injured soldier is recovering. There are Fisher Houses located at military medical centers all around the US, with four in Texas: Darnall Army Community Hospital, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, and the Wilford Hall Medical Center. I'll be bringing necklaces with me to Texas for both the Dallas Peep Meet (8/11) and the August Toobin' Regatta with my intention to bring enough with me for everyone to purchase one (or more), and I'll be suggesting a donation of $4 per necklace. After they're all sold, I'll count up the "take" and send a donation for same to the Fisher Houses organization. If anyone would like to purchase necklaces now, feel free to send me a PM, and I'll pop 'em in the mail to ya. Or if any nonparticipants in the Dallas Peep Meet and/or the Toobin' Regattas would like to purchase one, that's great too. I will ask you to cover the postage cost of the mailing which I will keep as reimbursement. But I assure you that 100% of the necklace sales (my donation being time and materials) will be sent to the Fisher Houses organization. Thanks everyone!!! P.S. The necklace bead colors are Teal Pearl, Bright Yellow, Black Pearl, and last but not least, the ever-present Glow-In-The-Dark beads! Oh.... you didn't think I'd pass up the opportunity to get a shot of one of my "kidz" in this, did you?? That's Tiggy at the end of the table just itchin' to jump up on the coffee table and mess up those necklaces!!! ![]() ![]()

Way to go Karen.. good charity!
I guess with all the different Necklaces, PDC, Softy's peep get-together and the toobin fest, it would be fun to wear all the different Nerak Beads..Just like Mardi Gras! P.S. You won't have to smuggle them into Texas. |

Ya know.... I never saved one from Softy/Stogey's party. Some rather inebriated party participant bought it right off my neck. I even sold David's and Zachary's too! Quote:
(although in the photos above, they appear to be white). The "magic" glow-in-the-dark beads are always a part of my necklaces! (and the other Nerak items too!) |

THANK YOU to all who contributed to the fundraiser for the Fisher Houses!!!!!!!!As soon as I've recovered enough from my non-stop week in Texas and can actually hold a pen without fear of injuring myself, I'll be writing a check to the Fisher Houses for: $170!! Thank you so much to everyone who helped out in raising some bucks for this very worthy cause!! |
