way into it

Ok, before I move on to day 2, I forgot to mention the last part about night 1. Once we arrived back at the Royal, my husband (who by the way was WAY more inebriated than me) decided that 3 a.m. would be a good time to go down to the beach and wade in the water.
NOTE: I would not recommend this to anyone under any circumstances!
However, talking sense into my husband when he has had that much tequila in his system is impossible. So instead of going back to the room, I followed him down to make sure he didn't drown! Kandyce, one of the girls we met from Texas, went with us. We got down to the beach and he went straight for the water. He was in and wading around. I tried to get him out, but didn't really have any luck. So, I went in up to about mid-calf. I immediately could feel a strong undertow. Kandyce said she could feel it too. It made me very nervous - especially since at that point Lucas was in waist deep.
I pleaded with him to come out because of the strong undertow. Luckily, he listened and came out - and we are all still alive to tell about it!
Now I don't know about these days, but on my first trip to Mexico (10 years ago) I went with a student travel group. As soon as we arrived, they took us into a meeting and explained some do's and don'ts for our trip... If I remember right, one of the don'ts was getting in the water after dark. They said the undertow was too strong and that it was illegal. I'd be curious to know what some of you vets have to say about that. Something tells me we're lucky that we didn't get into any trouble and/or get hurt... However, we were not so lucky in another way. Lucas forgot that his expensive Smartphone was in his shorts pocket. And so, it died an awful death to the ocean!) Also, somewhere in the mix, he lost his brand new leather flip flops!!
I woke up a little after 8 a.m. on Day 2, Thursday April 15. Lucas was hung-over, but I didn't care. I had no plans of spending a day in Playa laying in bed. Especially since it wasn't raining. I immediately ordered room service for the 2 of us and jumped in the shower. I woke Lucas up and made him drink a bottle of water and some Ibuprofen. (Speaking of bottled water, I love how the Royal leaves plenty of bottled water laying around your room. They are also good about delivering more water (or booze) if you need it.)
For breakfast, I had french toast and Lucas had an omelet. See pics below. I must be real honest about breakfast. The buffets were very good. However, I don't know that I ever ordered anything from room service that I was that impressed with. The omelets at the buffets were awesome (made custom ordered right in front of you). The ones on the room service menu were not good. Also, the french toast was pretty good, but the maple syrup did not taste like it does here in the US.
Sorry I took a bite of the sausage before I remembered to take pics. I did that with a lot of the food, but it wasn't too obvious in most of the pictures like it is in this one!
After breakfast and showers we headed down to the beach. The weather was overcast and a little cool (in terms of PDC) but there was no rain (yet). The clouds were moving very fast. We could see dark clouds over Cozumel and over to the North we could see rain. However, the clouds moved very fast and we would have periods of time that were overcast, but without risk of rain.

When it was not so nice...
The weather kept changing quite rapidly and the dark clouds went away. My husband is pretty fair skinned and was feeling the need to find some shade. And so, we headed for the pool. I didn't realize it at the time because it was our first day at the pool/beach, but the pool and beach were fairly empty. A lot of people must've opted out because of the weather. Because it was so empty, we were able to find 2 great chairs under a palm tree near Pelicano's.
We decided to run over to Pelicano's and grab a bite to eat. We left a hat and a couple of less valuable personal items to hold our chairs. We did this quite a bit while we were there, and never had any problems with theft. It seemed to send a more clear signal that we were holding those chairs and coming back than leaving one of the hotel's beach towels. When we got to Pelicano's, we were told that we must be wearing shoes and shirts. (I was wearing my bikini top and shorts with no shoes. Husband had on swim shorts and a t-shirt with no shoes.) It was really no big deal though because our flip flops and my shirt were just a few feet away. We got changed and went in to enjoy another delicious meal at Pelicano's.
My husband had the lamb and I had the flank steak that he ordered the day before (upon his insisting because he liked it so much). I also liked their mashed potatoes so much that I asked for an extra side of mashed potatoes. We both really enjoyed our food - just like the day before. I'm a steak and chicken kind of girl. But, my husband likes to try all sorts of new things. He really enjoyed being at the Royal and trying lamb, deer, calamari, etc.
(I didn't take a pic of the flank steak since I took a pic the day before.)
My extra mashed potatoes
After lunch we went back to the pool where I spent some time reading and relaxing and Lucas played volleyball with a group of Canadians he met. Some of them were in town for a wedding and another group was a family in town for a 2 week vacation. The wedding party was on their last full day. However, the family was there until after we left. We ran into them several times. They were all very nice. I'll probably talk about them more in the report and call them "The Canadians."
Lucas playing 4 on 4 volleyball which later turned to 6 on 6 volleyball.
After laying by the pool and reading a novel (The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks which is very good by the way), I started getting pretty sleepy. I decided to close my eyes and take a nap right there by the pool. Well that was until the rain set in. It started sprinkling and the rain drops kept getting bigger and more frequent. That's when I realized I couldn't sleep with it raining and it was probably going to get worse. I yelled over to Lucas that I was going to go back to the room and take nap. He said OK. I fully expected him to show up in 15 to 30 minutes.
Two hours later I was snoozing quite soundly and was awoken by Lucas. Apparently after I left the pool it began POURING down rain. However, since there was no lightening, they decided to keep playing. They took breaks to take tequila shots and to chug beers. Lucas said it was an absolute blast. However, by the time he made it back to the room he was DRUNK! (again, LOL) And I was totally sober!!
Lucas wanted to take a bath in the in room hot-tub/whirlpool. So, I began filling it up. Which by the way, it takes FOREVER for that thing to fill up. It's not that the faucet is slow or anything, it's just that that tub is huge! We got it filled up and put some romantic music on the iPod. It was nice. However, after 30 minutes or so Lucas fell asleep. I took pictures, but I think I'll save him the embarrassment and not post them here! LOL
Since Lucas was asleep, I decided to get cleaned up for dinner. After I got out of the shower, I managed to wake him up and encourage him to get cleaned up. He got cleaned up right away and was ready to go back down to the bar. So, I sent him on to the lobby bar while I finished getting ready.
