Crappy Day
Well we finally had to do it. Put down our 10 yr old Belgain mix. She has had a bad cough for a little bit. The vet took some x-rays and saw an enlarged heart and some small tumours. He put her on a high dose of anti-biotics, but no good. We took her to a vet in town who gave her the shots, and when her lungs depleted about a 1/2 liter of blood came out boy that caught all of us offguard. It is toough trying to explain it to our 4 yr old, but we can't lie to him and tried to explain it properly. Our 6 month old male is still waiting for her to come home.
Boy what a crappy week. Sorry but I needed to put it out there. |

Hey piper... I surely do know how you feel, we have that impending doom coming up on us real soon too. Our 13 year old Australian Shepard has recently been put on medication for an enlarged heart and water pills for fluid build up on his lungs. We do know the end is near but can not imagine being without him........... I too am sad

Do they start acting a certain way with an enlarged heart and fluid on the lungs...I have an eleven year old chow that is getting hard of hearing and her right eye is starting to turn cloudy...she also has a lot of bumps or tumors around her body that have been benign so far...Freaks me out a little...Im hoping for two more years.

So sorry Piper. They become such a big part of you! We've got a 10 year old golden retriever/mutt, and we know that the dreaded day is probably not too far off. It really sucks! Again, so sorry.

Oh, Murph...... so sorry to hear. Putting a beloved pet to sleep is our last and the ultimate act of love for them. It's the price we agree pay in the future for the love and companionship of a pet.... that someday we'll need to be strong enough to say goodbye.
Find peace in knowing that your puppy is no longer in pain and is instead enjoying the warm sun and long green grass of Heaven. Tell your son that your puppy is now chasing around and playing with my kitty, Gizmo, who was there waiting to meet her. (((hugs))) |

Yeah, never thought about this before but we decided to creamate her. Not sure what we are to do with the ashes but...
The vet we went to was a real top of the line place, it was reccomeded by a friend and we never went there before. They actually have a grief counselor full time. Make it a decent experience. We already have an offer from a neighbor to adopt a 5 month old silver shepherd, unsure if we want to rush into another dog so quick, will see what time says. Also, thanks for the thoughts it's really not something you can get emotional with the guys at work, a macho thing I guess. |

Sorry for your loss...we had to put our dog to sleep 4 months ago...he had a tumor on his chest and one on his leg...he was doing ok...but then he starting losing control of his bodily functions...and his eyes were glossy...he was just in so much pain. He was 10 years old. It is never easy to have to do this...I have done it too many times...I need a break from having pets...too much emotional attachment...can't see myself going through it again any time soon.
