Lightbulb Don Julio 1942 Tequila

What's the going price for Don Julio 1942 Tequila? Scott has now got me on a "must try" frame of mind! I am going to have to order it, as it's not readily available here in Tampa. I want to know the probable "damage" before I commit to an order!

BTW Bumper ~~ Does the Canadian government impose a HUGE Duty on tequila? Based on the prices you are paying, there's gotta be more to it than just the exchange rate....

Joanie, I know that's it's over $100 a bottle, but you will have to get with the resident tequila man, Scott, as far as exact price. I have never tried it myself, but if I remember right, there MIGHT be (you listening Scott?) a bottle next weekend at the regatta. Might just have to take a swig or two, or ten.

The provincial governments apply huge taxes & duties on all liquors, not just tequila. Comes from being a monopoly. The Don Julio 1942 isn't available in Manitoba - where I live, or Ontario, or Saskatchewan - the neighbouring provinces, so it's hard to say what it would sell for here, but it would not be cheap. For a comparison, here in Manitoba, a crock of Cabo Wabo reposado is $99.95 CDN, Herradura reposado is $32.51 CDN, Sauza Commemorativo anejo is $43.99 CDN and even Jose Cuervo Especial is $29.95.

We just had our first Don Julio 1942 at our "going-away" party last weekend - and OMG. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Our host bought it - around $85 bucks at the local liquor store. But it was "beautiful" and worth every penny.
