Banco Chinchorro - can it be snorkeled?

We are starting to do some planning for our winter trip. We have seen and done a lot in the area, (we just can never sit still) and there's still so much we want to see, and one thing we had heard about that sounded interesting was Banco Chinchorro atoll. We are tentatively planning o hop down to Majahual for a day or two, and we're wondering if anyone has any experiences with Banco Chinchorro. I know it gets rave reviews for diving with some sunken galleons in the coral and such, but being that we aren't divers I'm wondering if it is also just as good a site for snorkeling or if the depths are too much for this.

I'm going to try a google for some charters and what not, but if anyone has any experience with excursions or boats that they have hired to take them there I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

No experience, but...

is a one and a half hour boat ride to get there and is not a cheap ride at usd$85 per person (almost half of the cost of Scuba Diving the same bank).

Search for Xcalak.

I was just about to call out "hey...zeus!!"

Knew I could count on you for an answer to this. Thanks, that's too long of a boat ride for us if we're not diving. Maybe next trip we'll get certified beforehand (the kids will maybe then be old enough).

Any chance you'll happen out to Playa for the holiday season, Jesus? Would be great to finally meet you. I know a few others here who will also be in town at that time.

The ride is not too long (like going to Cozumel on the ferry and back), but is very expensive, maybe is worth it, but also you need at least 4 divers in the boat for the shop to send the boat.
If you get certified is more costly, though, usd$160 per person.

I will have a really busy rest of the year, I finish with Cirque du Soleil on Dec 28 or 29th if all goes ok and I will probably go to the Manzanillo/Puerto Vallarta area as is closer to the last city in the tour (Guadalajara). But I'm planning to go to the Riviera in Februry or March to try to be at the Peep Fest, but it depends on which shows are coming to Mexico at the time.
