IB Tucan - Internet access nearby???

My father-in-law just called wondering if there is somewhere he can access the internet from the Tucan without bringing his laptop. He owns a business and needs to check in on it while on vacation
I told him that I wasn't even sure there would be a connection for his laptop anyway. Does the hotel offer computers that you can use for a fee or is there an Internet cafe nearby??

My husband used the internet for work. He had to pay about $1 for about 8 minutes. The computers were always full, but the room has A/C. He could not open attachments or use his discs, etc. Probably our only complaint was the internet...however, he shouldn't have been using it anyway! We did receive a fax from hiw work without a problem and our verizon phone worked. Remember to get your phone set up before you leave the US. Enjoy

Was that internet that you used actually at the hotel or in town? Even a slow expensive connection will make him feel better than nothing!

My hubby and I used the internet at the Tucan also--just got back last Tuesday. It was $2 for 10 min---it takes 2 ten peso coins. Never had a problem getting on, it was available any time we needed it.

I did some inquiries, before going there, about bringing my laptop.
In the end we didn't.

Prices to hook up at the Tucan are skyhigh IMO, and then it isn't even broadband.
And where would you store your laptop? Not in the small room-safe.
Tucan offered to keep it behind their desk. Thanks, but no thanks.

My suggestion would be to go to Playa and find an internet cafe.
Cheap AND broadband.
Even some WiFi access-points (from what I've read in some posts) if you still want to bring a laptop.

Thanks for the tips. I figured there would be something in town, but I know he'd rather not deal with actually going somewhere to check in on work. I did tell him to leave the laptop behind though. I can't imagine bringing one to mexico

This has been a topic of discussion before. I also have a verizon cell phone but do not have the international service plan as that would require me to start a new one year contract. What did you do to set up your phone in advance?
