I am so glad to hear that the damage isn't as bad as they thought. I hope everyone is ok and safe. Wish we were going to be there to help with the clean up. Hope you all hear from your families and friends soon. Many prayers are still headed your way.

Has anyone heard how Playa del secreto faired. I have another home there that I am worried about. Last year with Ivan the homes on the beach were destroyed by title surge.

I have already found out the Pto. Morelos has no water damage and the square is fine, and PDC did not have a huge title surge......my concern is Playa del Secreto because we have no island or reef to prtect us.

any info is appreciated

I'm so glad to hear the damage wasn't nearly as bad as I'fd feared...
I just talked to my buddy Joe from Jeep Adventures in Cancun...He said the power is out in most areas of Cancun and theres treees down plus some water damage But so far it seems everything is ok...

He is going to drive down to Playa today to see if he can help out anywhere and then onward to Tulum (which he is most worried about)

Thank God

Relieved to hear that things didn't turn out as disastrous as we all anticipated. Boy, last night was kinda rough but I believe that all of our prayers and positive and caring energy helped.
Hope that everyone is OK. Still praying. Stay strong everyone.

Very slow connection here today. Will try again later.

Best wishes to all.

I was once a part time travel agent, and still get travel agent related emails. I just got this from Vacation Express. There isn't alot of information, but then again, it could be useful to someone out there.

CANCUN UPDATE: July 18, 2005, 11:00 a.m. EDT

Let us be the first to provide you with the most current information on Cancun, the Riviera Maya and Cozumel.

According to information from Royale Tours as well as many of the hotels in Cancun, there was very little impact to the resort areas and the hotels in Cancun. Initial reports are very positive, as the hurricane passed south of Cancun. Cancun has power and electricity and is in the process of cleaning up some tree limbs and other debris. Hotels have informed us that guests are being accommodated with food and beverages in air-conditioned areas and will be able to return to their rooms this afternoon.

The Cancun airport is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. this morning and Vacation Express and TransMeridian Airlines will resume flight operations today.

Early reports indicate that hotels in the northern part of the Riviera Maya have experienced minimal damage as well. We are pending information on the status of resorts in Cozumel and the southern part of the Riviera Maya. As we know more information, we will keep you advised. Please check www.vacationexpress.net for further updates throughout the day today.

For your clients who are scheduled to travel to Cancun later in the week, please reassure them that the destination of Cancun is ready to welcome them and that the hotels, after some minor clean-up today, will be fully operational.

For your last minute vacation requests, please note that Vacation Express also has limited space available to its other destinations: Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Aruba and Costa Rica.

We are counting on your support to continue to sell Cancun with confidence.

We have other friends and family down in Porto morelos, but have gone inland also and everyone is ok as far as we could tell last night. Seemed like the phones kept working through the night - luck for that.

Here brother is off to Cancun to check on boats / property there, but from what they told me by phone seems like minimal damage.

When I get more news will post - any word from anyone when power is to be restored in PLaya?
Puerto Morelos has some wind damamge but the town is OK. The square is fine! The power is to be back today.

Have you heard anything about Playa del Secreto??

Hello All;Just heard from the owner of the villa we often rent in Playacar, she reports very little damage in that area, mostly vegetation, but little structural damage. some water came into the first floor area, but even the satellite dish stayed up. Outside it seems most of Playa del Carmen and Playacar 1 is in pretty good shape.

C NN has a British guy in Playa and he is reporting no casualties and very little structural damage.

Michael, we hope your villa fared as well. To everyone on the boards, thanks for sharing a long couple of days, and all the info, good and bad. This board is full of great folks!!

I can answer this, she PM'd me that she felt a great deal of relief after seeing in James post that he talked to Heather. She has not yet heard from her, but is breathing easier knowing she is okay. She headed to work.

On a personal note, I cannot get a hold of my guy or my friends in Playa. I am assuming that all is okay, but still would feel better speaking to them. All in good time.

From cozumelmycozumel message board:
Just received the attached via email from Dave Dillehay at Aldora Divers:
"Even though the eye went through the south end of the island damage has been minimal. I would like you to post the following item:
For our concerned friends and customers…don’t worry!
Last night at midnight the northern eye wall of Emily passed over Punta Sur with 135 mph winds, and slightly reduced velocity in town. It is now gone on to bother others and we hope they have as much good fortune as did Cozumel.
At 8 am Memo Mendoza did a preliminary survey of damage. Some power lines down, branches in the streets, but apparently little or no water damage. There was no tidal surge at all. The Villa Aldora suffered a little water in the Courtyard Norte, Barracuda Suite, and Cameron Suite, due mostly to wind driven rain. My long suffering dock at the Villa (wiped out by Ivan last year) had no damage at all.
All of our boats were safe on land and tied down. As of 8 am on Monday we are dragging them back into the water and getting ready to dive again. It is our goal to be diving tomorrow, July 19th.
We have not been able to check out the rest of the island and we fear that some of the beaches on the windward side may have been damaged and our friend’s windward hotel, Ventanas Al Mar, was certainly at risk. We will provide a more comprehensive report when we have information."

Have no news - The cell phones are out as far as I can tell and can't get in touch with my wife - will wait for her to contact me and I'll ask.

My friends have a beach house I'll have to hear back from them to see how they faired up.
