From the 1100 ADT National Hurricane Center Advisory:

REPORTS FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT INDICATE
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 150 MPH...240 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. THIS MAKES EMILY A CATEGORY FOUR HURRICANE ON THE
SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE COMMON IN
MAJOR HURRICANES...BUT LITTLE OVERALL CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS
EXPECTED BEFORE EMILY MAKES LANDFALL. WEAKENING IS THEN EXPECTED
AS THE CENTER OF EMILY CROSSES THE YUCATAN PENINSULA.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES... 95 KM...
FROM THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP
TO 150 MILES...240 KM.

THE LATEST MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE REPORTED BY THE HURRICANE HUNTER
IS 946 MB...27.94 INCHES.

From RAM: The good news in this is that the pressure is rising. As the barometric pressure rises, the intensity decreases.

Oh- seems it is a spreading virus....by tomorrow all of us who are not there will probably be wearing "Playa" attire and eating mexican food....watching the crappy online TV.

Just googled for other TV-streams.....to no avail. Too bad Noticiero doesn't come in live.....

Thanks. All the conversion charts I could find was saying 161,but since I wasn't seeing anything that high, I knew it had to be wrong.

Excerpt from the Weather Channel below. Seems one of the latest developments is the that the warning were extended southwestward. Apologies if this has been posted already, but I searched and didn't see it.

Take care everyone.

Hurricane warnings remain in effect along the east coast of the peninsula from Chetumal northward to Cabo Catoche. As of 11 a.m. EDT, the warnings were extended westward and southward along the coast to Campeche on the west side of the peninsula. Storm surge flooding along the east coast near and immediately north of Emily's eye may reach 8 to 12 feet above normal tide levels. Large waves will accompany the storm surge. Rainfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches (isolated 12 inches) are expected as Emily swirls west-northwestward over the peninsula. Emily will lose strength as it crosses the Yucatan, but may well recover to a Category 3 hurricane before it hammers into the northern Mexican Gulf Coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Still, residents of southern Texas shouldn't let down their guard, just in case Emily doesn't behave as expected.

just heard an update on the weather channel, live from cancun. the hotel zone will be officially closed @ 2:00. no one can leave or come in after that. anyone still there will have to just hunker down and wait it out. i'm surprised at the number of people walking the beach!

I saw a live broadcast a little earlier on the Weather Channel where a girl stated she was going to stay and sit out on her balcony in Cancun Hotel Strip and watch the hurricane come in, because she thought it would be exciting. ESTUPIDO!

Yeah, it's gonna get real exciting. Sometimes excitement is not a good thing.

I told my Dad about it and he said she might be able to sit there for awhile, but then she's going to be in deep sh**! Well said. And these are the type of people who create big, unessecary problems for rescue workers.

Map??

Been watching the storm for a couple days now...concerned for everyone in the area Emily is threatning to hit, i hope for the safety of everyone, of course!

My husband-in-less-than-6-days and i are to be heading down to the Palladium in a week, trying to figure out if we are still going to want to be going there if Emily hits, i guess we'll just have to keep watching things eh... Wondering though, does anyone have a map that shows where everything is, PdC, Tulum, Cancun, and if possible the big resorts along the way? It's confusing never having been there to try and keep up with forecasts and the like. I'm pretty sure the Palladium is north of PdC...? And Tulum is south of PdC?
