sol maya condemned?

i heard that sol maya condos on the road to coco beach was condemned because a cenote opened up under the building causing cracked walls and everyone had to evacuate the complex
anyone know whats up or have any photos?
this is the same building that had a big palapa fire and explosion in december where a workman was killed

Did you know that a core sample of the ground is mandatory before construction will be approved? And for our house, they got a lot of samples. The city even asked for a few extra (at my cost) because they thought there may be some voids in the ground where we built our house. After the second set of core samples the city agreed there was no cenote and we were allowed to build.

Here's a link to an article about this from the Yucatan Newspaper. It's in Spanish, but you can see a picture of the building. It says the problem was caused by recent rain that softened the ground. They still didn't decide if they will demolish the building.

That does not look like the same building as the restaurant is in. Isn't Sol Maya part of the Sol Maya/Sol Luna/Sol Estrella group of condos? They are on the same side of the street as the condos and restaurant that had the explosion but further north.

Okay, same place but I had the names wrong. It's Sol Maya, Luna Maya, and Estrella Maya is yet to be built. We walked through Sol Maya last month and it was not all that nice. It is definitely not the building with the Italian Restaurant in it.

Wish they'd been that careful regarding building permits for homes in areas around Tampa! This is an area well known for sinkholes (similar to cenotes) and springs. Quite a few homes have been engulfed by sinkholes that suddenly open up. SCARY! And, unfortunately, most homeowners' insurance policies here have provisions that they will NOT cover damage or loss by a sinkhole unless you purchase special insurance especially for that. It's quite common to see signs posted in this area says, "we buy sinkhole homes."

That's the one. Two explosions so close together? So what would happen now with all the residents and the other two developments that developer is constructing?

The Yucatan Newspapers says today that the Sol Maya Condominiums will be demolished. Here's another picture:

And a link to the note (in Spanish):

Sol Maya

My wife and i were there the night it came down. Peoples doors and windows sealed shut. Some doors bowed tight. Some could not escape, however no one was hurt. One women Monica, had to climb the palapas all the way across from mid building to the front. All the gas lines and plumbing pipes broke with the intial slide.
My wife and I bought G-1, our 2nd condo in this complex the day before it collapsed. We even stayed to furnish that as well. We will probably loose everything. From what I saw when I was there Friday it probably com down with the storm. I have pics inside and out if someone can tell me how to post them I will.
We would like all the Playa locals to remain SAFE durring the up coming storm!

Brian and Kelly,

I'm so sorry you lost your condo. At least you were safe. We looked seriously at buying here last month but decided to wait. I'm glad we did; sometimes cold feet are a good thing. Who would have known. I'm really sad for you guys.

So sorry to hear this! My heart goes out to you. We loved the Pizza at Pumarola. It was just like straight from Italy. To bad that restaurant is gone.

Pummarola is still there, that is Las Brisas, which is next to Sol Maya....let me rephrase that, Pummarola was there, not sure it if is since Emily. Donato and Armando just finished rebuilding it 2 weeks ago and it was expanded and really nice. Hope it fared okay.

It was scheduled to open right after we left a few weeks ago. I was so hoping to be able to eat there. Hope they're ok. They've certainly had more than their share of stress this year.
