All Inclusive Resort Damage Updates - Hurricane Emily Only

These are the conditions at some of the all inclusive resorts in the Mayan Riviera. I will update this thread as I get more information. Some of what I post comes directly from the hotel and some comes from travelers observations. I can't guarantee all of this info...but this is what I have been told. At this point, information is somewhat hard to come by. I should have better and more reliable info later this week (I hope!). If the resort you're concerned about isn't listed, then I don't have any info at this time. If anyone has any confirmed info to add, feel free to post it.
*Update July 26th*
Different tour operators are giving different reopening dates for some of the hotels. There's no way to tell who is right and who is wrong...because perhaps both are right. Some hotels may only be accepting guests from certain companies for a short time, also adding to the problem of "Is my hotel open or is it closed?". Best thing to do is CHECK WITH THE TRAVEL AGENT OR VACATION COMPANY YOU BOOKED YOUR TRIP WITH. They have the final say on whether your hotel is opened or closed.

As of July 18th

Riu Palace
8 ton buoy on the beach. Vegetation stripped. 1st floor rooms flooded. Glass above lobby bar broken.

Thanks soooo much Shammy! You are great! We are all set to go down there on the 31st and were worried that there would be no place to stay. Hopefully the erosion isn't too bad on the beach. Good news is that many of the employees won't have to be let go (at least I hope not) like at some of the other resorts that won't be operational for a few months.

We're so sorry to hear about the loss in Cozumel as we enjoyed playing on that island a month ago. Hopefully there will be many jobs for the folks in the communities that were struck with such great losses of personal affects.

Thanks again for the update!

Iberostar Paraiso del mar

Hi!

We just got a call from our travel agency, teling us that they got the information that the Iberostar Paraiso del mar is not damaged. This information they recieved from the hotel itself and from the tour operator as well.
I'm going to Mexico on Sunday (07-24-2005)... But because of the information that i got in this thread, I'm a little confused...

Greetings from Germany,
Sarina

Great work Shammy!!!!!!

Too bad there aren't more travel agents like you around!

Want to move up here to Canada? I bet you'd get a lot of business from us Canadians!

Thanks, Shammy! Great report. It is good to know that the AI we are going to is in good shape after the hurricane. We were going to the EDR on July 17th but had to reschedule for Aug. 10th due to the storm. We were initially bummed out but thank goodness we had trip insurance.

Shammy,

Excellent Info!

We are heading down to EDR Oct 2nd.....I hope lightning doesn't strike the same place twice!

Also thank God the damage was lower then expected and it looks like no lives were lost.

Cheers
