Not sure about the buoy, but some friends of mine arrived at the Riu Palace the day after Emily (7/18) and spent a week there with no trouble. They said by the end of the their stay everything was back to normal, so you should be fine!

I have not heard that it is gone. It may be a new tourist attraction.

Damage to trees at Palace and Yucatan

Can anyone tell me how about how many palm trees were totally lost by the beaches at the Yucatan and Palace. One of my favorite parts of the two resorts were all of the palm trees and the beautiful vegetation at the Yucatan. We're plannning a trip in March -- any idea if it will look like normal by then? Do you have any photos of the beach at either of the two places?

Just returned from the Riu Yucatan on Tues. There palm trees and vegetation were damaged, but I did not find it to be major damage. The hotel staff was working every day, and in fact had started replanted before we left. It almost looked liked they trimmed the tops of the palm trees before the storm. I am sure it will be fine by March.
