20th Aug: Short Playa del Carmen and Cozumel update
TeleVisa is falsely reporting the conditions and damage here. Don't believe them. Apparently they have touristic investments in other resorts - you get the picture. (Update: they've toned it down now to a more realistic level but are showing mainly the poorest and weakest structures.)
Playa is looking much tidier today. Restaurants and shops are open on 5th and doing good trade. One customer was complaining that she'd been waiting too long for her food - unbelievable!!! While the beach has debris, people are in the sea and on the sun loungers. There is NO beach erosion at Playa town and Coco and Marmitas. We haven't been to look at Playacar yet. Things will be back in shape very quickly at this rate. If you saw the flooding picture near the Puerto Real hotel, it is almost cleaned up today. All the water has been pumped back to the sea and tons of sand have been cleared from the road to be put back on the beach. They lost a few palapas from the front - I don't mind because they take up too much of the beach anyway! The road from Cancun to Playa was open yesterday. I don't know about the route to Tulum yet. Ferries start tomorrow from Playa to Cozumel. Taxis are back in town. Fishing boats are in the bay again. Builders are back working on the condos on 1st ave. I put our Sky dish back on the roof but it needs aligning again ![]() If any of you were worried about our storm damage - the two wet pillows have dried out now! Although the front door sticks a bit from the rain fall like a river that was pounding against it. Cozumel is in good shape. Quote - Nobody has died, not even a dog. They will be tidied up within the week. There is some damage to the roads. Areas have power, everywhere else by Sunday. They want you to know everything is going to be sorted very quickly, don't believe the negative reports. Please come to see us soon! Last edited by Mindbender; 07-20-2005 at 12:15 AM.. |

[Hi Mindbender what about the report of the german dive instructor being
electrocuted? We dove with Tank Ha in May and both of our dive masters were German. I was wondering if anyone knew the guy?QUOTE=Mindbender]TeleVisa is falsely reporting the conditions and damage here. Don't believe them.
