<!-- begin body-content -->(KRT) - The MTV Video Music Awards Latin America is leaving Miami Beach for another seaside resort - in Mexico.
The fourth edition of the Latin hipster show will take place Oct. 20 at Xcaret Park, an ecological and Mayan theme park in Playa del Carmen, the increasingly trendy area on Mexico's Atlantic coast.
After three years at South Beach's Jackie Gleason Theater, the show, which honors rock and hip-hop acts in English and Spanish, needed a change of scenery closer to its Latin American base, said Pierre Gazzolo, managing director of MTV Networks Latin America.
"At the end of the day, our channel is a Latin American channel," Gazzolo said Tuesday. "Miami Beach has been great to us. But a show this size needs to travel to maintain its dynamic and creativity.
"The venue is very representative of Mexican culture," he continued, "and there are a lot of production values because there's so much natural beauty and youth."
The show will be broadcast live from a 6,000-seat outdoor circular amphitheater to the network's 15 million viewers in Latin America, and subsequently on broadcast networks throughout the hemisphere and on MTV and MTV2 in the United States.
Foo Fighters is the only group confirmed to perform; nominees and performers will be announced in August.
