Tappy, The resort did well I think.. The Rancho Grande buffet was being re built while we were there.. Of course the palm trees down the main avenue are just trunks now. Lots of work on the tile roofs, and up rooted trees damaged some sidewalks between buildings 2 & 3 and also the gymnasium was a mess but repairing the thatch roof. The workers are amazing, given the fact Emily happened 2 weeks before our arrival!!! I will post some pics if I can figure out how to???

Jan, I will answer any questions you have. You will Love the resort..
14 days along with 12 people?? I'am envious!!
Pm me And provide an e-mail add and I will share photos with you if you wish??
We have been to this area many times. This was our first trip to the Barcelo and LOVED IT!! The beach is the best of any resort we have ever been to in Mexico!! as far as excursions go? well I say Xel-HA, Tulum is a MUST. Xcaret is a good one also, Go to Playa Del Carmen and go shopping for whatever you wish..I know you are at an all Inclusive, but do try eating in Playa.. Chichen Itza, is also a choice. Crococun is something we have enjoyed with our children. You have so many options..The Barcelo offers atv's, horseback riding, parasailing, water skiing, banana boat rides, wave runners all at the resort for a cost.. For deep sea fishing try out Captain Ricks in Puerto Aventuras, well worth the money spent..Only a few dollars/pesos from Barcelo to get there..Also they have the Dolphin adventure there.. There is Akumal also, never been but understand it is very nice snorkeling..If anyone else has anything to add to this , please do.. We have all been first timers at one point..

KC

KC
We want to go to the Barcelo next year and didn't know they offer ATV's and horseback riding. Is this right on the property? Where do we "sign up" for it?
TIA
Melanie

Barcello beach is great. Spent a great week in Feb looking out over it.

We decided to bring the whole family down for summer vacation this
year but choose a beach about a mile farther south at club maeva.

They claim to have the best beach on the strip.

We leave Aug 30 for 8 days, hope Emily left a little shade.

Xpu-ha

Could you get an idea of the damage at Xpu-ha Palace from the Barcelo. We are going to Xpu-ha in March and are saddened by what sounds like extensive damage.

Thanks!

Don't think you can judge that.. By march??? Everything will be good.. Maybe not as spectacular as before, but you have so much time...Then again?? I was down there 3 weeks ago, 2 weeks after hurricane Emily, And the Barcelo was looking VERY GOOD!! (for just going through a hurricane).. Big palm trees with no palms.. Just stalks and braced. However..Lots of damage to Puerto Aventuras, And on the hi-way 307... But by March?? Trees down on the resorts, The palms of a whole lot of trees were gone when we were there... But by March??? Do Not worry!! Relax, trust your travel rep. and all will be good!! Enjoy your self..
Take into consideration that the people who work at these resorts work VERY hard!! It will be the best it can be.. And you will NOT be dissapointed at all!!

Actually I liked a lot of the food and I'am kind of picky..For sea food lovers they had Lobster & shrimp everynight on the buffet!! My wife & I do not eat Sea food, but I was impressed. I thought that out of any AI we have been to, (and we have been quite a few), The Barcelo had the best food..I did not like the Spanish reservation rest. And thought the Mexican was sub par, but the service, and the whole thing at the reservation restraunts was very classy!! Captain Morgans had a full buffet until 2 A.M.! Never had that any where!!
