Your pictures look great. I have a question about tools...my husband is in construction here in the states but doesn't want to bring his tools or other hardware necessities with him. Do you know where he can buy tools and hardware in the Playa area?
Thank you.

There's a place next to Chedraui we've bought tools at and also a place on the ejido side of the highway on Juarez. Wide range of power tools at both. Even saw Dewalt tools at the one on Juarez. Hand tools can be found at one of the many hardware stores on 30th, north of constituentes. There's also a big place at 30th and Juarez (Manzanilla, I think). Sam's club is where we bought our generator, they have a few things of this type. It takes awhile to figure out where to go for things- this store sells this, that one that. Often a little time consuming if you need a number of items but almost everything is available somewhere. One thing we couldn't find was very long drill bits. They seem to go up to about a foot long and that's it. We're bolting our logs together with half inch rod and that made drilling the holes a little tough through two logs. I plan to bring o few of these in 1/2 inch diameter down for this use.

A friend was at our place last week and took a couple photos that I'm posting here. Looks like the upstairs floor is just about done. Hope to have the railing and screen in upstairs before we return for a month in December. I plan to work on a well/shower/compost toilet and the down stairs while we're there then- We'll see how much of that gets done.

Hey Bill,

Love the pics , thanks for sharing. I'm going to be at Sacbe next week and would love to go by and see your place. Where is it located? My lot is next door to Bills house. He actually parks his truck on our lot. So it relation to that, how would I get to your palapa? I'll take some more pics for ya.

If you cross the street and go up the path next to tohoku park towards lilliana's house, there is a new path that goes up past Carlo and Celia's area and on up to our olace. Bill and Lynn can aim you in the right direction. You should drop by Lynns place as well, it's gorgeous and Cam is building right next door- again Bill and Lynn can show you the way. Hope things continue to improve for you all. Let us know how your trip goes.

Thanks Bill ,
I saw Lynns place last year just as she finished the bathroom out back. The palapa is very beautiful. It was almost finished when I was there, I bet it is awsome now. I'll get Bill to show us around again, he is going to take us out anyway. I am sooooooo looking forward to this trip and plan to make the most of it.

I hear there's been work on the Tarzan Tower- I'd be curious to see pictures if it's been fixed up on the top floor. We have friends coming down with us in December and they might want to stay there.

Ted sent this shot of the Tarzan Tower with the recent improvements. I think Bill may have internet working on the second floor now. Hope to start a collection of books in English on the 2nd floor to share on an honor system- take one/leave one. It's always hard for us to find novels to read when we're in Playa. I'll bring the first load down when we go in December.

I am looking to purchase about a 1/2 cord of firewood to do a firewalk. Is there anyone in Sacbe that has land clearing wood that we could use? We would like cedar but we are open to what ever is available in that area. We will be there the last of Jan so any help would be great.

bookstore

AS the library needs growing still, you may want to try the only and definitative english language 2nd hand books store of the riviera maya in puerto morelos, www.almalibrebooks.com. You can find it on the main square. When you are there, come say hello, I live in the first app. of the row above cafeteria d'amancia/bookstore.

We got back from our 1 month + trip to Sacbe this past Thursday. Sure enjoyed visiting with everyone there, quite a few new homes going in now. We got alot done, alot remains to be done, I start our report here and post more from time to time as I have time.
Our flight was uneventful, picked up a VW (aka Voche) from Easyway and headed down the road. Got to Sacbe and first impression was wow, everything is soooo green. Last time we'd been there was after Wilma and everything was leafless. Hiked our bags and stuff out to the palapa, said hi to neighbor Walter and Bill Barton and headed into town for supplies. Walter is in the photo below. He's been teaching us a little Mayan and also teaching me the trees in the area.

We spent the first few days just getting the essentials, food, air mattress, propane tank, 3 burner gas cooking strip, cooler, gas lantern. Sounds like getting the essentials would be easy but getting the propane and the gas lantern that hooks to the big tank were a real ordeal. To get tanks filled you go tho the end of Juarez on the ejido side, out about 10k on a dirt road to the plant. Folks in town can simply exchange tanks with the delivery truck. They don't come to Sacbe.
Each morning we had breakfast at Lynn's. In the photo below are myself, Mari, Bill B. and Lynn at breakfast. That's all for now.
