Looks like Playa Maya's newest neighbor...
...will be called Mosquito Beach. Catchy. Met the owner today out on the beach in front of the old Albatros property, along with some others of us who were all checking on the same thing -- the placement of buoy lines marking areas for swimming and for boats -- and he confirmed as well what we had already assumed, namely that it would in fact have a beach club arrangement for those at Mosquito Blue (confirming along the way that they have the concession for that area of the beach). Also according to the discussion, the Tank-Ha outlet will remain somewhere in the hotel but not way out front, as it used to be, as apparently there will be a bar there, and that in general MBe would be a higher class affair as compared to MBl.
In Playa del Carmen, this is Roving-eye Ryberg... Last edited by ryberg; 08-12-2005 at 03:44 PM. |

Sorry, but I didn't see that for a while, Tommy. These shots from today, while we were up on the roof getting our new Internet connection installed (
) should help make up for it: ![]() Was mildly surprised to see (evidently) palapa roofs going up there, especially as opposed to a 3rd floor. Then it occurred to me that perhaps as the property has now changed hands, it can no longer grandfather in a number of rooms over the established limits according to its area, and thus they've chosen to stay at 2 floors instead of take other rooms out and build higher. But that's just me speculating and is not based on any hard information I have. Steve |

For a little balance, here's a shot I took in the other direction today, of the new condos going up on the other side of the Alejari at 6th street and the beach. Big project.

Steve: Thanks for the Albatros update and photos. Glad to see that it looks like the original design of the Albatros was saved. Did the new owners say when they expect to be open? Thanks, Daveb |
