And did you notice how they put up a wobbly wooden fence with an amazing (and undoubtedly costly) number of planks of the type for (ahem) covering windows during hurricanes, and then just a couple of weeks passed and they already have taken all of them down and put up a metal fence.

You have to wonder about the "planning" around here sometimes (and I don't use square quotes lightly, let me assure you).

That wooden fence was made out of 1 mm thick veneer and some of it was gorgeous! They left it up just long enough for rain to ruin it and it's such a shame.

As for the baseball stadium where the Commerciale Mexicano is going, talk about rude. The Sunday after the stadium was fenced in, my neighbour saw buses of disgruntled baseball players and trucks of equipment sitting in the San Fran parking lot, right next door. They had driven in from other QR towns to play and no one bothered to tell them their field of dreams was gone!

Something else is being built on the corner of 30th and 8th (other side), where the soccer camp used to be (another recreational area sacrificed by the PRI). Anyone know what it is going to be?

Isn't this where Steve reported seeing the Walmart coming soon sign?

Heather, that is across the street. This one is a smaller lot on the other side of the street. I thoughy maybe it might be parking for WalMart, but it looks like the parking for WalMart will actually be under the store. 30th Avenue from 8th to Constituyentes changes every day. It makes my 5 minute commute interesting, but some of it is frightening (too much at once). I don't usually involve myself in Mexican politics, but it looks as if someone has been making some quick cash.

I hope not. Once a Hard Rock gets it foot in the door, Starbucks won't be far behind. I have made a vow to myself to move if that happens.

Well, or drive you berzerk (or berserk, as the case may be, although the etymology there would be more suited to Anna than James, but I submit that it's well nigh impossible to imagine Anna going berzerk).

Me LOVES Walmart!

I'm so freakin happy that we're gonna have it here, finally! I do feel sorry for those businesses in the area, of course San Francisco, right in the middle of the formerly known as baseball field and Walmart. Also, 3 Nietos, this little store right across the street from San Francisco, it was pretty cool I think, and they had to move half a block on 12th, but they don't seel the things they used to anymore, I think it's just a "papeleria" now.

And hell yea, this Walmart project is going SOOO fast! If I don't drive near it for one day the progress is huge! I'm sure they'll be up and runnin soon.

My wife has looked into the Starbucks thing already. But it looks like we won't be the ones to chase you out of town.

Personally, I don't care too much for Starbuck's coffee, although it is not horrible. What I do find frightening is the way that they breed like rabbits. In Washington D.C. suburbs, they seem to feel the need to put one on each side of the street, just to make sure they don't miss a customer. If people think WalMart is capitalism gone wild, I would like to offer them a $7 cup of joe at Starbucks.

All of the brickwork is up. Now, they are working on the parking lot, which will be under the store, and the roof. Looks like they should be ready by Christmas.

Commercial Mexicana, on the other hand, hasn't even started, as far as I can tell.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the update. just trying to plan my shopping on my next trip. Sounds like it should be done by our February trip.
