As I once heard the excellent travel writer, Rick Steves' say, "I've never heard an experienced traveler say, 'You know what? Next time I'm going to have to take MORE stuff.'" The Wal Mart (and other places) have 99% of everything one would need to spend months there if you forget something. If the other 1% is mission critical, then it's likely (a) passport or government issued photo ID (b) cash and/or debit or credit cards and (c) prescription drugs that you need while there and can't get easily. Other than that, I can't think of anything you can't get in Mexico that you would miss all that much for the time most people are likely to be there.
