Snorkling at the RIU resort possible?
Hi @ll,
I love snorkling and diving ... I have booked the RIU Palace for two weeks (end of september). I dont read that at the RIU resort is a reef ... ![]() Other times - in Egypt for example - I read that the hotel has a reef to snorkle. Did anybody visit the Riu resort and can tell me something about snorkling there? Must I go on a boattrip to snorkle or can I swim to a reef etc...? cheers, Marcel |

Hi
There definitely isn't anything out the front or nearby the hotel - it's just lovely shallow sandy bottomed sea! I was told, however, that if you walked south past a little rocky headland that you would then find something worth snorkelling for. I didn't try for snorkelling but did walk down in that direction one day - it was about 15-20 minutes walking time. I'm sure I've also read somewhere that if you went north past the north ferry pier you could do a worthwhile snorkel up there...but that could be my brain playing nasty tricks on me! You can borrow equipment from the hotel, and they do operate scuba tours from there which I think were about 30USD per person, for about an hour and a half, where they take you depends on the day/conditions etc. Basically, if you want it, you'll find it! Have a great holiday! |

Thanks jx2 & Ali for your answers and the hyperlink.
I'm a little bit satified 'cause when I stayed in Egypt or Cuba I just had to get on my diving mask / snorkle and jump into the paradise of sealife! There was a little reef where you needed 45 min to snorkle around. Quite nice to snorkle between times. I dont want to pay $30 every day to see fishes...I bought a travel guide ... on a map where you can see Yucatan there is the whole coast (from north to south) marked as a snorkling area, although PDC... but guys, I believe in your words. |

We were at the RIU Tequila (same beach area) in January and went through the dive center on the beach at the RIU Yucatan on a 2-3 hour snorkelling trip by boat. There were about 8 people plus the dive guide on the boat. We snorkelled in a bay just past the Xcaret park. Although it was a very windy day with lots of high waves, we were able to see an abundance of fish and coral, as part of the bay was protected by the reef. There was also an underwater photographer with us and you could buy a CD of pics for about $20 US which had over 100 pictures on it so you could print them out yourself at home. We would definitely do this snorkel trip again if at the RIU resorts. |
