Back in Perspective

Okay, please ignore my 'Friends' post, obviously it must have been me whining...again. I get to work this morning and find out my co-worker's Grand Baby to be and Daughter-in-Law are not doing well. Here's what his wife wrote about what is happening.

As most of you know my son Chris and his wife Jamie are pregnant and expecting a girl November 9. Yesterday Jamie developed life threatening complications and was admitted to Sioux Valley ICU. They have determined that the risk is to high to continue to allow the baby to mature within Jamie and they will need to preform a Cesarean later this afternoon or early this evening. This is provided that Jamie remains in stable condition. If vitals should drop at any point they will preform the Cesarean immediately. The doctors have determined that the baby wouldn't survive a natural delivery, however, this is very risky for Jamie as her blood isn't clotting and she will need many transfusions. They are running tests again this morning

Baby Fox has been developing for 29 week, so is rather early. The baby's lungs aren't mature, which means they gave Jamie 1 steroid shot yesterday around 1:00pm and will give the 2nd steroid shot around 1:00pm today. They only give 2 shots. They are hoping to keep Jamie stabilized long enough to give her the second shot, then give the shot time to take affect and then deliver the baby.

Even thou all of Baby Fox's other organs are developed they aren't mature. Baby fox will be around 2 pounds (normally the baby would be close to 3 pounds at 29 weeks) and we are told baby Fox will have complications. The toxins that have developed in Jamie's system, are causing her system to try and fight off the toxins which then is depriving nutrients to the baby. The doctors feel that Jamie only developed this problem with in the last 2 weeks. However hers case is very severe because of how fast it came on.

Baby Fox, will be in the hospital for at least 3 months. This could be longer depending on how her organs mature outside of the mother.

We are planning for the worst and hoping for the best, while saying many prayers!

We are a very lucky too have such wonderful medical care available!

You are also in my thoughts. I read your Friends post. These things happen to everyone. It doesn't make you feel any better about it tho. My opinion, don't bother. Why put yourself out there to get crapped on again? You really don't need that in your life. Please keep us posted as to what you decide.

I got an update from my co-worker. He said they are going to do a cesarean at 5 today. He said his daughter-in-law is not doing well, she is in a lot of pain and he summed it up as saying She didn't even look like his daughter-in-law. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers.

PB, usually I wouldn't bring this up here but ....

most of you know that my real name is Andrea. Last sunday after having arrived back home from my trip to the regatta in Texas I talked to my older sister. Suddenly she said 'Birgit doesn't have a sister Andrea any more.' Birgit is her neighbour and best friend. What happened was that the sister of her friend had lost a lot of weight in the past months. Two weeks ago she went to a doctor to have her stomach examined. During that examination she felt into a coma and didn't wake up any more. She died two days later. That Andrea was in her late 30's and had two little children. Although I always knew it this brought back to my mind how lucky I am to be able do the things I do and to be healthy enough for all of it...

You are so right, I feel lucky everyday that I can do the things I do,and to also acknowledge that I am truly a lucking person.
