continuation: refund or accomodation

On the refund or accomodation thread, the main question is regarding those people who lost hotel stays and did not have trip insurance. My question is this: How many of you out there purchased trip insurance and what have you recieved back/ heard back if anything. I had purchased trip insurance from an unnamed source (for the time being) and feel as if I'm not getting what I paid for. But perhaps I'm expecting too much, so I would like to know what others similar situations have turned up. The place I went through refunded me two nights hotel stay only (the two that we actually did not stay at hotel) even though one night they would not refund there was very few amenities available, one out of seven restaurants open, no pool avail or spa, show canceled etc. plus we had some baggage issues, and they want receipts for our luggage that we lost. I don't have receipts for bags I purchased over a year ago. Just wondering about what everyone else is receiving from trip insurance.

Please name your source. We already have insurance, but if I can use this to leverage better coverage or service, I most ceratinly would. Last thing you need or want is a ruined vacation, but then to add insult to that injury is just not right. Then again, after seeing the pics from Katrina, getting out with your life just may be considered "good Enough".

I agree with the last part, and I feel lucky that we decided to purchase insurance at all. I don't however want to badmouth a company that is just doing there job. Perhaps all insurance companies would need receipts before reimbursing. Perhaps all insurance companies would only reimburse for hotel stays that are not used. (regardless of how many amenities are unavailable) I don't know, like most people I've never dealt with this before. But if I find out that others who purchased insurance got reimbursed for such things then I have no problem naming the company we went through, hence the reason I posted this thread, to be educated and to provide information on such matters.

Trip Interruption insurance

I was in Akumal at the ABR when Emily went through. The ABR evacuated us to Merida and took very good care of us there.

We can home early, because ABR was not operational. I have just filed a claim with Travel Guard and am waiting for a reply (they say about 30 days). Their fine print says the the Property must be uninhabitable, which it was. What I don't know about is the other parts of the trip (air and transfers and the 2 days at the ABR) because they advertise under benefits 100% trip cost for Interruption, but there is a lot of fine print.

So far Travel Guard has been very helpful, especially getting us on earlier flights, of course I had a huge cell bill.

please keep me posted as my insurance did not cover any airfare and I thought we would be refunded 100% for trip interruption as well. Thank You!
Anyone else? Trip insurance $?
