Say hi to the new guy
I first visited playa del carmen about 14 years ago, when there was no Dominoes or McDonalds and when, except for a few resorts, there were only little house down the south coast.
I've come back every year since. I love the place and the people. Going back September 24, 2005 for a week. For some reason, from the begining we have been partying at Karen's Pizzaria. Got to know the staff and they always remember my drink, Jim Beam and Coke. And they always put it in the big margarita glasses. But we hit many other places as well. The first bartender we got drunk with worked at Karens and we befriended him,,,,Acrillio is the man. He doesn't work there anymore. A couple of years ago he was at Jaguar, but I don't know where he is now. I loved the ****** too, but they seemed to have gotten real expensive. Any way,,,,wanted to give a shout out to all you folks. |

Hi new guy. Welcome to the board! You can check the calendar and see if any other peeps will be in town at the same time as you. Check the General forum also and see if there are any peep meets at the same time as you'll be there.
And feel free to join in the insanity in the Off Topic area...it gets crazy sometimes! |

Guten Tag New Guy!
You discovered Playa the same time we did and we also have been back every year just like you. These days we are spending more time out of town up and down the coast but still enjoy it for a couple nights each trip. We try hard to ignore Mc Donalds and other things we don't like there anymore. We just loved Playa back than. It has changed so much but for now it still has contained some of it's charm on La Quinta and north end of town. Do you remember when the Shangri-La and Las Palapas was actually out of town? I never forget when we noticed the sign and drove down the little dirt road from the highway through the jungle to discover this hidden treasure. We fell in love instantly. Just does not feel the same anymore. Sorry Guys I know you all love it the way it is now!!! Karen's, ******, Da Gabi where there and so was La Parilla. Maybe this is why we like La Parilla so much as it is a part of old Playa. Akumal, Tulum Playa and Porto Morelos has not changed that much since than. |

Our favorite place it the Wyndham Maya,,,,formerly club viva maya. Me and my gf Paulette are the two time undefeated Couple of Club Viva Maya Beach, after winning these silly on-stage contests hands down. We first stayed at the continental. It was not all inclusive at the time. We have also stayed at the Azteca, what was known as the Royal Maeva, and the Diamond?? (forget the full name). But we like Viva Maya the best, because its small and you get to meet most of the guests, and its a blast. I always find the food there good too, and it has a great gym with real weights, as opposed to cheesy machines. We have many friends there too and have been invited to go to the real mexican places by some of them. Hasta Luego. |
