Xpu Ha Palace
I just saw on the Palace Resorts website that they changed the reopen date for Xpu Ha again. Before it said that it would reopen December 1. Now it says that they don't know when it will reopen. I'm glad I was skeptical and changed my honeymoon in December from there to ASP and Coz, Palace.

What does everyone think about Sunscape Tulum? In the photos I've seen, It looks kind of similar to Xpu-ha. We will just have to look forward to June at Xpu-Ha, and bring all the kids. |

We stayed at Adventura spa palace and loved it. Adult only though which was great for us to relax, have fun and they have lots to do on property. Plus, you can easily travel to Playa del carmen and as well into hotel zone if you like.... just a long bus ride. I like being able to use the other resorts with the braclet. so, you can taxi to moon palace for day or any other. The tours of Tulum and such that are included let alone spa treatments at ASP are worth it.

I just read on tripadvisor that Xpu-ha Palace will not be reopening
A local of the UP says there is some land dispute with the area natives. I guess instead of fighting with them they chose not to rebuild since the hurricane. I don't know if this info is correct, but that's what I read. I hope it's all a lie! I'm sooo sad to here this news. |

Xpu-ha
I had a reservation for March at Xpu-ha Palace. I just called Palace Resorts and they told me that it would be closed until December 2006
! Sounds to me like what was said above may be true. It would be much easier for them to close it permanently if nobody has a reservation there, which will certainly be the case by December 2006. Very, very sad. Xpu-ha Palace was a wonderfully unique place. Hopefully Palace or someone else will revive it in the future. Quote:

I still can't believe how many DIFFERENT things people are being told. I had someone tell me yesterday that THEY spoke with Palace resorts a few days ago and THEY told this person that Xpu Ha would be closed maybe until January! Then there's the folks that are saying it won't reopen at all. This December 2006 is a new one on me.
They really do need to get this together and send out a press release to prevent all this misinformation. Something has to be right, but what? ![]() |

Xpu-ha
Shammy,
I received an e-mail not long after I got off the phone with them. This is what it said... "The Xpu-Ha Palace suffered a severe damage from the hurricane, there is no official information saying it will be definitely closed. To be honest with you that is only a rumor, the Company has not emitted an official communication about closing the Resort. The official information is it will be open next November 2005." I find it interesting that this person (whom I've communicated with in the past and seems to know what she's talking about (she is based at Aventura, not Miami) says that there is no "official" information about a definite closure. I'm not sure if "next November 2005" was supposed to be "2006." It's seems odd to use the term next when referring to two months from now. I'll e-mail back and see if I can get a clarification on that. You're right about Palace. I'm a Palace Premier member and have come to realize that Palace is not good in the commmunication department. Please let us know if you hear anything more about this. |

What I heard
I was at a travel agent trade show last Thursday and talked with the sales rep about the Xpu Ha Palace. He suggested not booking anyone in there until you hear back from him that they opened the doors. Every villa building had the roofs torn off, lost some things inside the rooms, lobby was completely destroyed, the beach bar is gone, washed away foot paths and bridge. Basically it looks like a mess. It really took a full on hit. We where down there a few weeks before the hurricane when they had a tropical depression. I saw how that affected them I can only imagine what the hurricane did. I was surpised too how far behind the Playacar Palace was too. Took some pictures to show the agents back here, who where all surpised too. I am sorry to say but the Palace resorts do not have a great track record on meeting opening dates with their resorts. Everyone of their resorts including the one they had (have still) in St Thomas. I tell our staff, do not book until you hear the doors open.

On Tripadvisor, someone said they heard that Xpu-Ha isn't going to reopen. Very sad!
I have a ton of pics from Aventura, Xpu-Ha, and the Mayan Riviera from my trip last November, e-mail me if you'd like the link! Marysa (EpinionsJavelina@hotmail.com) Quote:

We were at Xpu-ha last November and absolutely fell in love with the resort. We are leaving tomorrow for Moon Palace (only because Xpu-ha is closed), and although I'm sure we'll still have a nice vacation I am expecting a totally different experience, nowhere as nice as Xpu. I will be very sad if the closing rumors are true.

E-mail me if you'd like to see some pictures!
I hear that Moon is a great experience too. I think as long as you do some exploring on the Mayan Riviera, you'll have a good experience. I was getting married at Aventura last November! We changed our plans instead of going back to ASP for our 1st anniversary and are going to Ecuador instead. But I hope to make it back to the Mayan Riviera some day! My 1st trip to Mexico was last year, I am so mad I waited so long. We loved xpu ha. We wanted to go back this is what they told me.
Dear Mr/Mrs On behalf of all PALACE RESORTS staff, we would like to thank you for your preference. As your kind request, we regret to inform you that in fact, due to the severe damages suffered at Xpu-Ha Palace Resort by hurricane Emily, we decided to closed the resorts to be able to do a mayor restoration and rebuild of new areas. After receiving a complete report from the contractors currently working on the restoration of Xpu-Ha Palace it was concluded that repairs will take longer than anticipated. Therefore, the resort will not be opening on December 1, 2005 as estimated. For the above mentioned reason we are discontinued selling Xpu-Ha Palace indefinitely until further notice. Updates on the progress of the construction/refurbishing of Xpu-Ha Palace will be provided as they become available. All clients with confirmed reservation booked from December 1, 2005 through December 24, 2006 will be protected at one of our other resorts based on availability. Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience. Best Regards, |
