I'm not some kind of defender of Sam's/Wal-Mart, but I haven't heard a lot in the way of local protest about Sam's. Indeed I believe they're considered to be important as a new employer of locals and I know they did agree to buy something like 6 new squad cars for the police department as part of their negotiations with the city. FWIW.
