Seaching for Tamales and what do we find
Breakfast today.
It was nice to sit outside and watch the goings on .
They have great breakfast hear.
Allan with his new camera, cool camera, it has an extra display screen on the lens side for taking photos of your self.
absolutAL has a wealth of information about Playa. He told us about a Mayan family that owns (I think this is right) a whole block on one side of 5th Ave and leases it out for far less than they could get out of it if they sold it. They still live there back behind the places that front 5th Ave. Allan may have to correct me on this info.
Another interesting thing he talked about was the fact that when they paved 5th Ave the last time the put down a row of gray pavers a set distance out from the stores and this was suppose to be the limit as to how far out into the street that the merchants could set stuff. He said that only lasted a while and now if they want to put stuff out farther into the street they can but they have to pay to do that. You can see the line of gray pavers just to the left of the bike in the picture if you look close.
Donna liked they way this store decorated their plants for Christmas
Later in the morning we walked down to the Chedraui Store passing the new KFC on the way.
I had read that Tamales Flor de Lis had move from up north on 30th and around 48th to the street behind Chedraui so we walk down the 45th Ave that runs past the store on the east side. Does not look like an area where one might find the tamale place does it. We walked to the next street, Sur 7 and there is nothing behind Chedraui, just a big empty lot that looks like a good place for them to put a Whole Food Market. I never found the tamale place when I looked a year ago on north 30th and I never found it this time. Could some please tell me where it is!!! We did find something east on 7th we enjoyed.
These guys, earlier in this report I said Donna thought the boy on the right was the most beautiful guy she had seen in Playa, but what she said was most gorgeous.
There was 4 very friendly cats hear and they all seem very healthy. Anyone care to bet if we have to walk down to this area next trip to see if they are still around?
Cool door on 45th on our way back to the store
Cranking out tortillas at Chedraui.
Later, back on the beach it is a very calm.
All most no waves at all, one of those days you could just float around on an air raft.
I don’t know how anyone else feels about this sand bags mess, but I don’t think they belong hear. I think the Porta Real Resort needs to build a block wall like the old Continental Plaza Playa did that is just south of S. Frogs and it needs to be back on there property not out on the publics beach and then put a walk-way on the beach side of the wall 3 or 4 feet above sea level for the beach walkers. That way if and when there is no beach we can still get by the hotel without crowding into their area.
And, how would you feel if you paid $$$$ to stay at a beach hotel with sandbags for a beach.
After a long walk up and down the beach we head over on 6th. Donna likes these fish on the side wall of Fusion.
By now, I am hungry and we head up 10th to this new place, Delifish. I had taken this picture early in the day before they opened. I am trying to find a good replacement for Marirco’s Don Ceviche that closed.
Lots of sauces, this place might be it. But they did not have many things on the menu like Don Ceviches did.
Food looks great, but it was just OK. Taco Camaron $20p, Quesdilla Camaron $24p, Tostada Cevieche $18P, Fish Taco $18p, Coke Light $18p, Agua Horcuata 420p
I did get myself some tamales later in the day when I walked up to Mega for some stuff. The same lady has been seting up across 30th from Mega for several years now. My problem it I don’t know which ones to get, I think she has about 6 kinds, I did remember from before that the ones to the north are the sweet one so I ended up with one of those and chicken with verda sauce. Next time I will order one of each ( after I learn how to say that in Spanish).
BTW Chris (cmsitaly) I’m having a big pork with green sauce tamal from “The Tamale Place” in Indy for breakfast today, Molly & my Son –in-law Brad came over Friday and brought me 4 different kinds along with 2, ½ gallons of “Blue Bell” Homemade Vanilla Ice-cream that you have in Indy but we don’t have in Illinois yet. It is soooo good and creamy.
I saw this little bar they added to the 10th street side of the Hacienda Real Hotel on the La Randa Can Sada webcam and thought we better give it a try. As you can see, the girl that has been sitting on the bar stool since August on the webcam is not still there. At Mr. Chile, I think they call it, we had by far, way over and above any others this trip, the worst Margatias, but who knows, different bartender it could have been the best.
Dinner tonight was a Caboncitas, I had this same salad the last time we had dinner here, but that time they forgot the peanut dressing and I ended up with a poppy seed dressing that time and I think it was a lot better with the poppy seed dressing, this flavor of this dressing seems to just to overpowering for the salad.
Donnas Tortilla Soup, OK, but she has had much better in Playa.
I had the Shrimp Brochette, I had read several times about how good they are, have to say, not impressed at all. The bacon flavor overwhelmed the flavor of the shrimp and everything else. Donna said again this time “the beans are the best thing”.
I have to say, we don’t get the hype over their food, I agree the breakfast are good but we both feel, just as the last time we ate dinner there that there are at lot of other places with better food. Sorry, we like the place and the service is good but, besides breakfasts, I doubt if we here again. Maybe drinks and appetizers.
We meet this couple (Amy & husband) from Iowa, Cedar Rapids I think, and her parents from Wisconsin. There are staying here at the hotel. We met them here at breakfast yesterday, she knew us from the forum, and they were on the same bus going south yesterday. Then we saw them again tonight. She said she is on the forum so maybe I can get her to reply here. ??
