Wow - it looks like the ULTRA private balconies on the suites are gone - VERY big shame. Those were great. I'll reserve judgement till we get there in May, but anyone that does get there after opening and posts a trip report will have my full attention!

How are the hotels now along Playacar in regards to the hurricane? I was thinking of going in December 2005. Are the beaches ok? I remember staying at the Wyandham Azteca in Feb 2005 and the beach was corroded there. Any info would be great....

Corroded? I'm thinking you mean Eroded?
Anyhoo...the beaches are fine, most of them anyway. The only one that has a MAJOR problem is the Allegro. They have almost no beach, and only one row of chairs, right up against the wall can fit. The Royal Hideaway beach is smaller than it ever was, but at least it doesn't have the big drop off like it used to. Anyone looking for a nice beach would be wise to skip the Allegro, right now anyway (although it's been this way for a while!). I walked up and down those beaches a few days ago and took some pictures. The Allegro beach (or lack thereof) Royal Hideaway beach I can't recall which beach this was. Might be the Viva Azteca or might be the Riu Playacar. |

For whatever reason, the Riu Palace has had the better beach lately of most of the area resorts up and down the Playacar resort area.... |

Nope, it's definately not the Yucatan and the Palace. I walked north from the Palace and took pictures, never south...so it HAS to be north of the Palace...and I know this is also north of the Viva Maya because I didn't start taking beach pictures until I got past the Maya.

That's exactly what I was thinking jobob, just wasn't sure. And the funny thing is...the Azteca is supposed to be closed until Nov. 1st. However, I stood there looking at a beach full of people and an entertainment staff playing water balloon games with guests! Sure didn't looked closed to me!

I hope the hurricane doesn't effect the reconstruction, that would be bad. |

I am going to be at the Viva Wyndham Maya 12/8 thru 12/11. I am a Wyndham by Request member. Who do I email a the resort to make sure this is noted in our reservation.
Also ... how is the Maya/Azteka doing after Wilma? Thanks!! ~ Cindy |

If you booked through a tour operator, such as Apple Vacations, they will not credit the stay to your account. |
