Viva Maya sounds great since it reopened.
Seems much the same or better than when we were there before in 2003.
Glad the wildlife and cats are still there, my kids loved them !

Whats the evening entertainment like now?

Can you get some recent pictures posted here ?

Keep those reviews coming, it's getting us in the mood for our trip there.
Are we counting the days or what ! !

Wondering if anyone can answer a few questions about Viva Maya. We are going on Sunday. Do they have tennis racquets for us to use or should we bring them? Is there any type of internet access? Is the water OK to drink here? How about in Xel-Ha? Should we pack bottled water for this trip? Thanks for your help!

I don't know about the tennis rackets but they leave you two bottles of water everyday in your room . Also they have internet access for a price. I think it was just a few dollars for use. Cheaper to e-mail home they to make a call. Have fun, hotel was just redone.

Tennis racquets are available on site, water bottles in your room - and if you need more than they leave for you, just ask them for more. Internet access can be a little spendy, there's an internet cafe in the shopping strip accross from the hotel that's cheaper but it's a bit of a walk. Bottled water is available at Xel-Ha, no doubt - but you can bring a few of the bottles from the hotel with you. Haven't been to Xel-Ha myself, but a friend and her family went last time we were there and she recommends bringing water socks because walking on rocks can be hard on the feet. Have an AWESOME time - and post pics when you get back!

Good idea getting water socks, except that will be a little tough in Michigan in December. We have a lay-over in Ft. Lauderdale, maybe I can grab some there. Thanks for the good suggestions and I will post pics when we return.

If I remember correctly, the internet charge at the Maya and Azteca was $3.00 (US) for 30 minutes.

Viva Maya & Papalas

When you get back can you let me know if they have replaced the papalas (Straw Beach Umbrellas) at the beach. I saw some recent photos of the Viva Maya and it appears that they no longer have any papalas on the beach. Furthermore, since most of the palm trees are new and are still young it looks as if there is little to no shade on the beach.

As of the first week of December there were no palapas. BUT....the Viva Maya beach is much improved from the same time last year as it's a lot wider now and the volleyball court has been moved back down closer to the ocean and away from the beach chairs.

When I was there last, I did see 2 pairs of water socks; my guess is they are gone now, and not restocked. Just a hunch, though, based on what I know about stores in Playa managing their inventory.
