Viva Maya
Shammy,
Do you know if the work they are doing at Viva Maya are all hurricane related? I tought that they were planning some renovations anyway (more rooms, pool remodeling) and the hurricane happened just before they were to start the renovations. What have you heard? Quote:

The last we heard, they will be taking reservations for November 1st. In the new 50 room area, there will be an adults only pool, and exclusive bracelets, separate for the adults only area. Michele and Tony...Calgary Last edited by geckogurl; 10-12-2005 at 10:48 PM.. |

gg, That's some great news about the Viva! That's our destination in April. We like the idea of an "adults only" area...not that we don't like children, raised a son ourselves, but vacation time is relaxation time. Don't want to have to deal with screaming and whining kids. This time around, our budget wouldn't allow an adults only resort.
I've heard that there was a lot of beach erosion in Playacar from Emily...any news about the beach in front of Viva Maya? |

We were there the 3rd week of September, and Yes, the beach at the Azteca looks good also...it looks like Emily actually dumped a lot of sand back onto the beach all along playacar! M

Just an FYI...spent the past 5 days at the Riu Palace, right next to the Viva Maya. They DO have an awful lot of work to do and I can't imagine how they'll have that place open in Nov. 1st! I took some pictures and will try to get them up tomorrow. But the buildings that are directly on the beach are still just concrete shells right now, no windows, interior walls, paint...nada! Parts of the same building further back are done though. The pool area looks pretty good, the big palapa is back up. The beach needs a little "evening out" because it's gone unused for so long. We walked by the front entry of the hotel last night at about 10pm and there were guys working on the walkways...putting in the cobblestones. They are also building a new building (or buildings) right up next to the street as well, but that shouldn't impact what's going on with the rest of the resort I'm thinking.
So it could happen if they keep working around the clock, but I don't think I'd want to be the person with a reservation for Nov. 1st! Time will tell! |

Shammy, What are you doing...burning the midnight oil?
Clock says you posted 5 hours ago...that puts it at 1 AM MR time! ![]() You're supposed to be rested and relaxed after a vacation...or are you always working? Thanks for the update on the Vivas. Looking forward to those pics. Kinda happy we have to wait till April...everything ought to be ship-shape by then. Ohhhhhhh, now I know why you were on the forum at 1 AM! Just read your post on the "What's your temp..." thread. Checking up on the home-front, eh....is everything OK this AM?

Nope, I was posting from home, not from MX so it was closer to 2 AM NJ time. We got back last night and yes, I was working already!
Everything is not too OK here...STILL raining but at least the high winds have stopped. I have two trees down in the yard, and LOTS of branches. My basement is about to flood...the pump is also burning the midnight oil and working overtime, just don't know if it can keep up with this much water. I think they are saying that it will stop by tomorrow, but it might be too late. The water table has risen so much that the concrete blocks in the unfinished portion of the basement are wet about 2 feet up from the ground. Ack! |

Shammy, I'd cross my fingers and toes for you, but I can't...they've become webbed!
I've started building a large boat in the only dry corner left in our back yard ! Hope your basement pump can keep up. Good luck!
