Help on Playa area

We are looking to spend a week in the Playa area after a week in Cuba if we can make the connections. Can anyone suggest a few good places to stay. If AI's are good, they are preferable. We want to keep the costs done if possible, but want a nice place as well. We are mid 40's and enjoy a good time, but don't want a super crowded beach either. Any help appreciated. We would prefer a place with few children and good swimming as well. Oh, we are in Edmonton, Alberta
