New tropical wave
Maybe an uh-oh, not again.
000 ABNT20 KNHC 281619 TWOAT TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK...CORRECTED NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 1130 AM EDT WED SEP 28 2005 CORRECTED TYPOS FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO... THE VIGOROUS TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED FROM JAMAICA SOUTHWESTWARD TO HONDURAS AND NICARAGUA HAS BECOME A LITTLE BETTER ORGANIZED THIS MORNING... AND A WEAK SURFACE CIRCULATION HAS DEVELOPED ALONG THE SOUTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE WAVE AXIS. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY HAS ALSO INCREASED AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS REMAIN AT LEAST MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR SOME DEVELOPMENT TO OCCUR. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE FORECAST TO GRADUALLY BECOME MORE CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA... AND THIS SYSTEM STILL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION LATER TODAY OR TOMORROW. THE RECONNAISSANCE FLIGHT ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM THIS AFTERNOON HAS BEEN CANCELED. HOWEVER... ANOTHER AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM TOMORROW MORNING... IF NECESSARY. INTERESTS IN THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA AND ADJACENT LAND AREAS SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH. ELSEWHERE... TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH THURSDAY. FORECASTER STEWART $$ |

(I can't believe I stayed there!) living in Suffield Connecticut, I witnessed plenty of tornado damage, ice storms, blizzards with wind chill factors of -65F and TWO freakin' hurricanes! Saw the eye of each of these mothers pass directly over my house! Also lived through sweltering, humid days with temperatures WELL over 100F and mosquitos at night like you see in an "OFF" commerical. Yah-yah...I KNOW that the last two aren't natural disasters....just personal annoyances. I'll risk living in Tampa.

No hurricanes, hardly ever a tornado (and when we do get the rare one it usually is nowhere near a populated area; wide open spaces and all) and we don't usually even get that much snow, usually! Dangerous wind chills in winter, that is about it. |

To clarify, the exact location was pinpointed as Storrs, CT, home of the University of Connecticut. East of Joanie's old stomping grounds, and my current ones.
I happen to live on the southern edge of CT's tornado alley, such as it is. Mostly high winds, tho' couple of years ago, we did actually grab the kids and seek shelter in our basement. Ex - cite - ment! |
