You swim families. Both our kids were big swimmers, those USA meets can be very long. But when they get into the high school swimming it is a blast. Exciting and fast paced, and we have meet so many great families through the sport at both the USA level and high school level. Both my kids have been very fortunate to be state swimmers, my sons team was state champs 5 out of the 6 years he was on the varsity team (he started in 7th grade on varsity) there high school was rated top 5 in the country for there school size. (sorry I had to brag a little!) My daughters team was top 5 in state pretty good for a team that only has 250 kids in there high school. Swimming is one of the most commetted hard working sports in my opinion. Brings out a great work ethic in the kids.

Figured I should finally chime in on this thread. Hanging low lately, just to keep up with my daily routine but still lurking on a daily basis. I'm always game for a fun get together as long as it's not in the middle of the day. A last minute deal usually works best for me.
Still think a breakfast run at Dick's Bar in Hudson would be a blast. The food is terrific (and slow like Mexico) and you can't beat the $1 bloody mary w/beer chaser. In downtown Minneapolis, Hells Kitchen or across the street at The Local would be another good breakfast choice. The drinks are somewhat spendier and you also have the issue of parking (usually $5) but still worth it. For late afternoon or early evening, Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Minneapolis has some terrific seating arrangements that would make it perfect for a gathering. Also, Ferns on Cathedral Hill in St. Paul has a large selection of bar height tables which is perfect for an informal meet. The food and drinks are fairly reasonable there too. I can think of a whole lot more... As for swimming.. my daughter has been on her highschool swim team (Johnson) since middle school. For some reason, her school doesn't attract as many swimmers as the schools she competes against but she likes it because she gets to swim in more competitions. Last year she did really well but this year she's topped all of her personal bests. The best part is that she really likes doing it... even the training. Jimmy |

I like Dick's Bar in Hudson or Ferns on Cathedral Hill in St Paul, Jimmy has great ideas. We've talked alot about doing this, lets get it going. The one weekend I can't is Oct 15th, 16th. If I find a good flight MEA weekend I'm trying to talk my daughter in going to Playa with me if her work allows, my husband will be hunting, and the child I used to have is at college though he would be glad to go too, it has snowed already at school (Grand Forks, ND) he hates the weather up there, but his major is there.
What dates are good for others? |

As of now, the weekend MarBaby and I plan to head south toward the cities is November 11 - 13. But, I'm not sure if our destination will be the cities or South Dakota. If my son's not coaching debate on the 12th, we'll go to see him in South Dakota. If he's busy, we'll spend the weekend in the cities.
In the 90s, we were in the twin cities many weekends for marching band competitions, but now the trips are few and far between. |

Just wanting to bump this up. I am trying to make plans to go visit a friend of mine so I wanted to see if we had made a decision on this gathering. The only weekend I am not open is October 22/23. Right now everything else is open. We just need to do like last time and just pick a time and place. Any thoughts?

Hastings is sooo close to us!!! Nope....it is nice weather this week! Just got back from High School soccer playoffs and wore just a light jacket! Think we need to greet you Texans somewhere when you arrive. What is your schedule? Hastings is a little river town. Do you have friends there? Did you see Playabum's thread on being in Hastings?

You'll want to get out of Hastings after too long. It's very quaint but small town. Plan a day at the Mall of America (MOA) if you're a shopper. If the two of you want to head in to Minneapolis the clubs and restaurants are many! What do you like to do???
