The La Bamba Jarocha on Calle 10 just east on Ave 5 closed about two years ago. I believe the other La Bamba is still on Ave 30 south of the PEMEX station by the new EXTRA convenience store.

A brand new Bamba Jarocha has opened on 30th avenue and 22nd street, where a pharmacy used to be. Haven't tried it...yet.

Also, Kabuki is a very good restaurant, I've tried (I think) all of the sushi places in town and it was my favorite for quality, presentation, and fair prices. It has been a while since I've eaten there, however.

Well this has been VERY helpful as I will be staying at Riveria Caribe Maya as well. I remember James giving a master class on Pollo Asada on this forum. Are there any good places to find this magical dish near RCM? How late are these little local places usually open? I won't be getting to town till probably 7pm or later and I'm sure I'll be hungry (though NOT being hungry probably won't stop me).

I have a Mapchick map but it's a couple of years old. I suppose I should get another one.

I would love to know the answer to the pollo asado question. My b/f loves it. He's eaten so many chickens, he thinks they will all be lined up in heaven when he dies... ready to get their revenge!

I would love to impress him with a great chicken meal close to the hotel.

Thanks!
Tina

Now that we are all hungry my question is ,is it safe to walk to La Bamba Jarocha at night ? Is there certian roads we should stay on or stay off of ? Or is a taxi the best way?

I think it is safe to walk. Especially since I live half a block away from the one on 30th avenue and 22nd street. You might want to take a taxi just to save yourself the walk, since a taxi is only 14 pesos in town.

Incidentally, the one on 30th and 22nd is called "La BOmbo Jarocha, not La Bamba as I initially thought. I ate there the other day, just a little shrimp tostada as a snack. It was very tasty, but I thought the menu was a little high-priced.
