That's interesting... People see that out there a lot?

I can think of a couple of reasons for this. One is that they haven't properly set up their charge account with their bank to allow for tips to be listed and entered separately, which allows for the processing of the tip on the card without the tip being lumped in with the regular restaurant income and then accordingly subject to whatever taxes the restaurant regularly pays. In that case they would just need to go back to their bank to do that properly.

Another would be that (using this case as an example) ******** as an establishment of the restaurant type is not financially separated from the ******t as a hotel, meaning that they wouldn't be able to set things up as above. In this case they would also have to tax your restaurant service at 12% rather than 10% (so if you have your stub you can check the math and see on that point). We found this lack of separation to be a bad move, financially, as a restaurant is likely to qualify for much lower income taxes than a hotel, such that keeping the two business distinct is much better for the operators. (This incidentally is why you have to pay your hotel and restaurant bills separately if you come and stay with us, in case anyone has ever wondered. )

If neither of those is the case, then the only remaining points would be smaller, nit-picky stuff, such as the bank commission lost on the tip part of the charge (which they could just correspondingly reduce when paying the employee the cash of the tip, if they really wanted to worry about such a small amount) or the cash-flow considerations (employees usually being paid out in cash the same day for tips). However since the charge is basically an instant deposit to the operation's account, neither this nor the former seem so problematic.

Do people see a lot of this no tip on the credit card policy out there? I'm curious.

Incidentally, I'm assuming (perhaps mistakenly) that legman is a guest of ours who was here recently for the second time, in which case I would doubt he's on some kind of attempt to trash any place, as he exudes a sense of calm and general level-headedness. But of course the name may be a coincindence and I may be mistaken, dunno...

Don't really know too much about this here in Playa, but in the U.S., it was fairly common in hair salons or nail salons I frequented. I assumed it was for the reasons you mentioned above.

Curious to see how this has been handled here in Playa, particularly since often the tip is included in the bill total. I can't stress enough how big of a headache it is trying to use a credit card for payment in restaurants here. Cash is king!

It is "fairly" common here in the far north suburbs of Chicago, and it is a pain in the a**, to make sure you have cash for tips when you go there knowing you cannot put the tip on the credit card!
