Blue Parrot on 5th new restaurant details

Just got this press release.

Playasia Premiers With World Class Sushi, Sashimi And Pan-Asian
Dining at Blue Parrot Hotel 5th Avenue
Quote:

Blue Parrot Hotels, Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in conjunction with celebrated Japanese Chef Elmer Komagata (K’s Cafe, Hotel Nikko) announced the opening of Playasia, featuring world class sushi, sashimi and pan-Asian dining at the new Blue Parrot Hotel 5th Avenue.

Playasia’s playful “jungle-chic” design emerges in a dramatic open-air courtyard environment featuring a waterfall-fed jungle fantasy “village” of palapas and multi-level tree houses built over a glowing jewel-tone pool. Lighting is provided by a funky assortment of crystal chandeliers and glowing orbs imported from Morocco. The focal point pool slowly cycles through a spectrum of colors.

Playasia's fun and energetic atmosphere offers diners a versatile menu featuring a wide array of appetizers and entrees sure to suit all tastes and occasions.

Warm glowing candles and the playful jungle habitat provide the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal in the center of Playa del Carmen’s 5th Avenue entertainment and shopping district. Playasia's extensive menu incorporates a harmonious yet adventurous blend of Sushi and Sashimi, as well as additional Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese specialties.

Playasia offers salads and appetizers such as Goi-Cun Summer Rolls, Hanoi Cous Cous and Caribbean Conch Salad. Entree selections include Taiwanese Basil Shrimp, Yellow Curried Black Cod and Yakitori Cornish Hen. For a perfect ending, indulge in Pisang-Goreng (Indonesian fried banana with homemade vanilla ice cream) or Halo Halo (Tapioca and Lychee nuts in Calpico coconut cream.)

For another style of dining, enjoy Playasia's menu sharing, which allows diners to taste their way through the menu by sharing appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

Playasia’s twin Bangkok-inspired bars mix a sultry assortment of specialty cocktails, global wines, sake and Asian beers. As the evening progresses, Playasia transitions to an intimate club environment featuring the area’s hottest DJ talent spinning a format of sensual beach house and chill-out.

Wow! I hope it is as good as it sounds. Anyone tried that new place on 10th next to Dr. Taco? The sushi looked inedible but the menu of cooked food LOOKS great. Anyone check it out yet?

Does this press release mean that it is already open or opening soon? If soon, any idea when?

If it really turns out to have world class sushi and sashimi, as noted at the top, there, then Delmy & I will be patronizing that establishment on a semi-regular basis!

Hot, Hot, Hot

When I first started coming to Playa about 6 years ago, I always stayed at Pancho's (Hotel). It was a great centralized location - across from Java Joe's for the early morning coffee/bagel/etc. and close enough to crawl back to (if necessary) from a hard night of drinking at the Tequilla Barrel. The only problem that I had found with the location was (and maybe still is) the lack of any breeze or air circulation within - old Frieda Bar area. When it was hot up on Ave 5, and was oppressive within Pancho's center court area. Still, I love sushi and I'll be there (when it cools down a little). I walked in about three weeks ago and it looks really, really nice. I wish Playasia well.

Hubby and I tried out Playasia last night for the first time. Celebrating ONE YEAR in Playa!
The food was excellent, the service was excellent, attentive and well timed and the sushi is the best in Playa. They get the rice right which to me is essential and the fish is very fresh. Now for the bad news. The prices are not for the faint of heart. Think $120 pesos for a good sized roll. The menu is limited. (I´m not sure that falls into the negative column) Many of the pan-asian specialty dishes are served family style, so entrees are meant to be shared. We had several rolls and shared Grouper (fileted on request) done with a yellow curry coconut sauce and julienned vegetables. A generous amountof steamed vegetables were served on the side in a nice basket steamer. Yummy. Several hot sakes later we left $1400 pesos poorer, but very pleased with our meal and the staff. 15% gratuity is included in the check, and we left a bit more for Jorge, our waiter. I would definitely go back for a special occassion dinner.
