We never went near the Del Mar or Beach, except in the Iberobus. We ate at the buffets for the Maya for breakfast, and the Lindo for lunch. Our one dinner buffet was Lindo side, by the pool, close to the beach.
As far as the palapas go, I would be at the beach by 10 a.m. if you want one. I would be there by 9 a.m. if you want one close to the water.
Best of luck on your trip! We were at the Barcelo that same week last year, and boy was it hot and humid!
