How'd you meet?
I've been thinking about posting this for awhile. I love stories about how people met their significant other. Would love to hear some of the stories from your lives.
I don't really have a current SO, except my guy in Playa and that's kind of same old story type thing. We met at a bar....how original. We met at the ****** as a matter of fact. 3 years ago, April 21, it was a Sunday. I put that in there because when I asked him if he remembered when we met he remembered it was a Sunday and I didn't. I had been in Playa for a week (this is when I went to live there) and went out to meet some friends. It was the same old story....we saw each other across the bar. Did the flirting across the room thing and then he came up and started talking to me. We ended up talking on the beach until 5 in the morning. We still talk a lot or at least email and IM, and of course I see him when I go down there. So how about you? How did you meet your SO or do you have a story you like...maybe how your parents met or your siblings met their SO. |

DH and I met at work, we both work for the same company.
I was his HR rep and had to rein him in from firing people willy nilly without having gone through the proper steps first; he used to drive me nuts...but we always had some major chemistry, just goes to show there is a fine line between love and hate. there still is, some days. ![]() We started dating about 7 years ago (after I chucked hubby number one, unrelated reasons of course) and just had our fourth anniversary!

I met David in a high school art class. He was a senior and I was a freshman. We started dating almost a year after we met and have been together since then (14 yrs), except for one or two small times apart. We will be celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary on October 28th.

My husband and I met at my apartment actually, lol. I was hosting a surprise party for a friend of mine's girlfriend and this friend invited some people to the party that I didn't know. My husband was one of them.
I actually didn't pay any attention to him until he started saying rude things about Irish people (which are my descendants) and that got my attention. It turned out he was just being funny. We ended up talking the rest of the night at my place and the bar we went to later. But he was moving away to Alberta (far away from Halifax) in two months so I didn't pursue it. He called me three days later and we ended up dating for those two months until he moved away. After he got to Alberta for a permanent job, he realized after 5 months that he wanted to be back in Halifax with me so he quit his job and immediately drove back to Halifax to be with me. We have been together ever since and just had our 5th wedding anniversary last Friday night. |

I don't have an SO at the moment so I will just relay the story of my grandparents... my grandmother was sitting on her front porch one day with a friend of hers and this handsome man drove down the street in front of the house. She thought for a minute and said to her friend, "I'm going to marry that man" and she did!

Hmmm... I never really "met" my first husband. It's a small town; you know everyone at birth, even if you never spoke to them. After sitting behind me in the theatre a few weeks before, and pulling my hair, he just called me up one day and asked me out. Not wanting to go with him, I actually asked my mom instead of just doing it like I normally would, since I was sure she would say no. (I was 13; he hadn't yet turned 15.) He heard her say yes and I was too shell-shocked by her answer to know what else to do but say okay!
Then, a few months after I left him, I was 31 and had never been "out" in my life, so my sister and I got dressed up and headed to a club. I was a little overwhelmed but finally got relatively comfortable chatting with a Canadian guy who had asked me to dance with him. As we were standing there, another guy walks up and says, "Are you Barb's sister?" I said yes, and he grabbed my arm and pulled me to the dance floor, saying, "C'mon, I'm sposta dance with you!" What??? Turns out he was ready to leave and my sis was dancing with his buddy who wasn't ready to leave, so the buddy tells him to go find the sister and keep himself occupied! Long story short, we married 3 years later! Neither is terribly romantic, is it? Maybe that's why I'm single now! |

Kathy and I were introduced by a mutual friend at a bar. Found out she was a graphic artist and I quickly remembered some stuff I had read on the psychology of color - being a young psych student and tried to impress her. Little did I know at that time that she like tall skinny guys with large noses - I coulda kept my mouth shut
![]() I was so ready to meet someone as neat as her. So far, so good |

We met in a neighborhood bar...where everyone knows your name kinda place. I was there with my fiancee. I ran into Mike about 6 months after my engagement ended (thank goodness) and we started talking. I thought he was a really nice guy (not usually my type) but I gave it a chance...so glad I did. We were married in August after being together for 5 1/2 years. He's truely the love of my life.

Zydeco (Mike) and I met on a pre-Internet "game network" known as TSN (The Sierra Network) in 1992. We used to play dungeons and dragons type games together as well as hearts, spades, backgammon and others.
We were both married at the time ~ unhappily for each of us ~ in long-term marriages. I had been married 22 years and he had been married 16 years. I was living in Suffield Connecticut and he was living in Tampa Florida. We first met each other "in the REAL" in May of 1994. It was love at first sight for both of us. We already knew that it would work for us, though, as we had been able to "talk" with each other for a long time by computer and by phone. I gave my 2 weeks notice at my job of 20+ years and filed for divorce. My former husband was OK with the parting and we remained friends. By July 1994 I had moved to Tampa and was living with Mike. When his divorce was final in May 1995, we got married ~ two days after receiving the divorce decree in the mail. Our ONLY regrets? That we didn't meet one another 20 years earlier! Congrats on your twentieth! Linda and I met when I was a young (very young) Air Force GI in Spain...I lived off base and her father had retired to the village where we lived. Met in the neighborhood discotheque...we've been dancing together now for the past 32 years and she still has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen! |

John and I met in highschool. P.E. to be exact! I hated him! He was always picking on me! He called one day and asked if I wanted to go to lunch! I had to ask my brother since my parents weren't home. He said I could as long as I brought him home food! We were gone so long it was cold by the time we got back! Started dating right after that! I just knew one day walking home that I was going to marry him! Not sure how I knew it just came to me! Have been together now for 22 years! 17 of those we have been married! I wouldn't change anything about our life together! He's a wonderful man!

BonnyW and I met the day after Thanksgiving 1987 at her mother's house.
The setup Bonny was living with her 1 year old daughter at her mother's house. She had been asked by her husband of 4 years (not me) to move out a month before , she gladly did and moved in with her mother.I had been separated from my wife of 7 years (not Bonny) for about 5 months, and was living with a friend of mine. My friend's girlfriend was Bonny's sister, Laurie. The day after Thanksgiving was Laurie's birthday and she asked if I wanted to join the birthday party at her mothers house. Sure why not, I was 2 days removed from my first court date regarding my pending divorce, child support and alimony payments . Needless to say I wasn't in the best of moods and a little party with beer would be good. There was Bonny Details of the party left out. Better told in a group after mas cervesa. 2 months later I got up the nerve to ask Bonny for a date. She kept stalling, saying she couldn't, she was too sick, maybe later, blah, blah, blah. . . . I told her if she didn't say yes, I wouldn't ask again (I can take a hint). She finally said yes, I picked up her up the next day, and she was sick (oh well). We went out anyways. About 8 months later we moved in together, 2 years later she went away to school to get her Bachelors and Masters. 8 years after meeting we got married. |
