On the Road Again

Hola all,

We're on the road again, driving our way down from Calgary to Puerto Morelos.

It's been a fairly routine drive thus far, though we got stopped by SNOW last night in Colorado. (My dream was never to see snow again. That dream was shot to hell real fast somewhere in Wyoming)

Tomorrow we'll be in Northern Texas, then we'll take a couple of days in Austin to load up on Shiner Bock and Chicken Fried Steak before we cross the border.

Has anyone down there heard how the roads are after Hurricane Stan? Especially concerned about the always rough Tampico to Poza Rica stretch and the always unpredictable Veracruz to Villahermosa bit.

Looking forward to being back in Mexico. We hope to have the old bookstore cranked up again by October 25.

Gracias
Rob & Joanne

Sorry! That happens sometimes! Your just lucky your not here in march or april when it really snows! You are about 3 to 4 hours away from where we live! We didn't get any snow up here!

Snow good...

Actually we hunkered down in Fort Collins and never saw any snow until we hit I-70 today. Tons of snow, split trees and trucks still in the ditch. Sights that I thought I would never see again.

Obviously we waited too long to make our trip south this year, but we were trying to stay north of the hurricanes.

We love Colorado, but we like it better when the skies are blue and the sun is bright!

Here's a thread of a couple who moved down to PDC.

And here's the actual trip report:

There's good info on the roads and such after crossing the border.

Report yesterday on Lonelyplanet Mexico that the road in the Catamaco area was out. Would expect quick repair since this is a major travel link.

Still on the road...

Hola ya'll

We're in Austin, TX tonight. We've changed climate completely and we're getting closer to that border. Thanks for your posts.

Appreciate any reports on the roads. We heard the cuota from Veracruz to Villahermosa was closed after the storm. Hoping it's open by the time we get there. It's an important road, and we've paid a TON of pesos to drive it in the past, so they definitely have the dough to fix it.

Does a website exist with road conditions/closures in Mexico?

Saludos ya'll
Rob y Joanne
ps. finally got my Shiner Bock tonight. Who knew Lubbock TX (where we stayed last night) is dry? What's with that?
