iPod Video

Not surprisingly, the big announcement from Apple resterday was the introduction of the iPod Video. It comes in 30 & 60 gig versions at $299 & $399 respectively. The 60gb holds up to 150 hours of video and Apple claims a 20 hour battery life per charge.

Videos are $1.99 per shot including Lost & Desperate Housewives episodes which will be available to download the day after airing.

I don't know when I would use this, but there is something about this that really intrigues me. Even without the iPod, the ability to be able to download TV shows for $1.99 a piece to view on my computer and eventually we will see movies. I know this is possible now, but Apple has just made it easy enough for my wife and kids to get their favorite TV shows onto the computer for viewing. This will change the way people watch shows and movies in the very near future.

Well, they claimed their last set of batteries last 12 hours, but I don't know a single IPOD owner that confirms this to be true. Most people I know say their battery lasts 4 hours. There should be some kind of class action lawsuit. It seems like apple made lots of money off false advertising.

So when Apple claims 20 hours. Figure a third of that, maybe 7.

Apple seems to have corrected the eyeglass prescription of the geek that does their battery-life tech specs.

I don't think it is necessary to figure a third anymore. The new Nano gives a little more than it claims to. I think they've turned over a new leaf after so many class action suits.

As far as 1.99 for a tv episode... yikes. Sorry, but I'll stick to Bit Torrent. TV is free.

My daughter has found BitTorrent . Explains why I've had a hard time working while she is home. Hopefully I've got that blocked now, so I can get some work done.

Thanks for the update James. I won't slam on Apple too hard, cause I still love their products. Also thanks for the heads up on BT. I never heard of it, so I looked it up and was impressed. I think I'll have to give it a try. When you install the software, are there any other malicious programs or adware that get installed, like with Morpheus?

TV without commercials however is not free. Part of the issue is that your average iTunes user is not going to use bit torrent to down load episodes of lost. Similar to music, iTunes and iPod added millions of users to the digital music market, even with Napster and similar free options available.

Our old iPod mini is still getting a reliable 8 hours on a charge. Our experience appears to be different than however people most people you know are. Not doubting your report of their experience, just that ours is different so far. If that changes as the iPod gets older, I'll let ya'll know

Send a message via Skype™ to bufante
What about taking 20 mins to download a show? That kinda sucks.
