February weather and water
Our family will be making our first trip to Mexico in mid-Feb 2006. We will be staying at the Iberostar Tucan for 8 days. What can we expect in the way of normal weather this time of year? Also, does the water temperature on the Carribean fluctuate to the point that it is not really swimmable in February?
Of course, the water temperature is probably a relative question sicne we have spent most of our mid-winter and summer vacations on the northern Oregon coast where the ocean temps might reach 50 degrees on a good day (year round!). Thus, even water temperatures in the 60's would seem warm to us. |

I think you'll find the Caribbean perfectly warm and lovely for swimming any time of year. We have a Weather and Wear article that is a good read for quick, general information.

You might try taking a look at the weather section available if you click on the "Read More" tab up top of this page, for some good general information. Plenty of good stuff in that area to answer a lot of your questions. We always visit Playa from Mid February thru Mid March and the first word that comes to mind is "windy". Not unpleasantly or unbearably so, but definitely windy.

Ok, three responses, three suggestions to read the weather article on the "read more" section. I think we've got it covered, guys. So...if you still have any questions after that, feel free to come back and ask us. This is a kinder, gentler general forum.

I have an idea... I think I'll look in the "Read More" section.
>We will be at the Tucan/Quetzel from Feb 17th to Feb 25th. My crystal ball tells me the daytime temp will be 84, humidity at 50% and not a cloud in the sky. A light breeze will blow all day to keep the bugs out of my margarita. |

That is usually the time of year we go, adn the best time, I think- the ocean temp is like bathwater, mmmm...and the weather is perfect, clear and not too much rain...but windy! but the breeze is nice, it keeps off the few bugs that might be around and keeps you from sweating too much.
Evening are also gorgeous, no need for even a light sweater normally, unless maybe you will be sitting oceanside.

When we were there last year (late Feb/early March), the water was perfect and refreshing, the days were hot and sunny (for the most part), and at night, I found having a sweater with me handy at times since it did get a little cool during some of the evenings. It's a great time of year to visit Playa. (And the IB Tucan is an awesome resort - been there 3 times and loved it each and every time!!) Too bad we'll miss ya.... we arrive on the day you're leaving.
