Running in Playa

The martial arts in Playa got me thinking of my other hobby I hope to keep up with while in Playa. That is distance running. I'm thinking its going to have to be early in the morning of late at night with the heat but trying to think of what would be good routes to run there for 10-15km (6-9 mile) runs.

Any other runners that live in Playa with route suggestions. I'm thinking I could even do 5th from Constituyentes North for quite a while, I never made it 10k in that direction before though not sure what becomes of the roads further along. I guess if I was really brave or stupid I could run the highway in either direction. I was thinking of posting at one of the bulletin boards to look for some running partners, I like to go a couple times a week.

Running on the streets can be difficult here, the streets aren't in the best shape everywhere, plus contending with traffic can be a hassle. James and Anna used to run in Playacar, doing a big loop, but it's not as long a run as you're looking for. In the mornings, a lot of people run on the track at the soccer field on 34th street and 20th ave. Not as exciting, but safer and easier.

I am not much of a runner, but I think that running around Playacar would be pretty nice. As Heather pointed out, it'll be a little short for what you are looking for, but hey, run it twice. No matter what you're into, there will likely be attractive stuff to look at along the way.

I've walked that entire area before and it's nice. Good sidewalks, lots of interesting houses and ruins to look at. I enjoyed it.

I've run in Playa. Best route so far has been in Playacar. Not too much traffic in am. But you have to watch for the workers on their bikes on their way to work. I've run to the end of Constitution across the highway but it only goes about 2 miles.
North on 5th gets into a really run down area with alot of loose dogs. We stay in the north end so most of my runs end up at the track. 400 meter cinder track. Reminds my of some of the tracks I ran on in high school.

Thanks guys, Playacar looping sounds like it might be the best, I do remember some dodgier areas north of the stadium and the definitely traffic is not something to run in down there.

I always hit the beach when we were there. The slope on the narrow parts is a challenge and so is deep sand but I was always good for an hour or so in the morning...... then straight into the water to get the sweat off.

The beach is good too. The morning run is a good time to throw an old towel on the beach chairs to save for later in the morning when Tammy rolls out of bed.
