Boston Adventure w/Pics

Our treck to Boston began at 5:30 am Sunday morning. Cool, rainy weather was the forecast. But we didn’t let it slow us down. 7 hours and 400 miles and three pee breaks later we arrived in S. Weymouth to find Karen and David standing in her driveway waving at us. After lots of hugs and a quick change of clothes it was off to Boston to meet some Peeps.

Crossing the George Washington Bridge

We met up with Karen (Beachnutt719) and Jerry before boarding the Harbor Express. We boarded the Harbor Express Catamaran Ferry in Quincy (which they pronounce Quinzee) and crossed the Boston Harbor into Boston. Saw a really cool Navy ship…the SS Salem in Quincy. It was a quick, smooth ride and it provided us our first view of the expensive homes along the harbor and downtown Boston. And yes they do serve beer and wine on the catamaran.

Boston Harbor and downtown Boston

As soon as we got off the ferry, we walked to the Sail Loft. Perfect timing as Eileen (Eileencc) and Charlie and Anne (Caramba) and Brian (fruitfly) all walked up at the same time. Lunch was delicious. I had my first cup of New England Clam Chowder….very yummy. We took lots of pics….drank some beer and margaritas… and than Karen surprised us with an anniversary cake and some special souveniers. So sweet of her to remember our anniversary. And thanks to Karen and Anne for their gifts too.

The whole gang

Than it was off to do a pub crawl of Boston. We headed for Faneuil Hall (which I learned is not a bar) and Quincy Market. First stop Ame’s Plow this place is known for their low ceilings and loud hand dryers…than onto Beantown Pub to watch on of the longest games of pool ever played you would have thought the object was to keep all your balls scattered on the table… And then to Henneseys where Nerak almost started a bar fight. By this time we knew we had to catch the last ferry back to Quincy….so we said our goodbyes and headed back to Quincy.

Getting back on the ferry to go back to Quincy

Back at Karen’s the fun began. As you have seen and can see from these few pics….lots of wine was opened and consumed. Karen kept saying “should I open one more bottle of wine?” And so at the end of the night we had 4 empty bottles and one missing corkscrew. Didn’t get to bed until 3 am…had to be up by 8 am to get on the T and into Boston by 10 am to catch the Duck tour. Would we make it????

Lots of good wine.

Looks like you had a great time... (and recognized some of the food-places in Boston I saw last year when I went there for a weekend ).

Waiting for day 2...

I didn't start no bahhh fight!! I just managed to totally piss off one of the other patrons of Hennessey's to the point that he just HAD to make a wisea$$ comment to me. It was DAVID who would've started the baaahh fight!! He might be short (and cute), but don't anyone go givin' his woman any crap!!! I spent most of my time at Hennessey's talking him down.

What a photo op for the Forum THAT would've been!!!!

Day 2, Monday

Happy to say on only 4 hours of sleep we did get up on time and did catch the T into Boston.... for the rest of us that’s what they call the subway. Very cool to be riding the oldest subway in America. When we got on the subway, Karen said "when we get there we have to meet my cousin Robin". Funny thing when Karen put her hand down on the seat in front of her to get her balance, low and behold it was her cousin Robin sitting right there in front of her. We arrived at our check in for the Duck tour…it was really raining and cool …were not sure whether we would get to the Charles River part of the tour or not. After checking with our tour ConDUCKtor Captain “Ace Bandage”….we were happy to learn we would be diving into the Charles River afterall.

A little history on the Duck boats… an authentic renovated World War II amphibious landing vehicle. All were either built in 1944 or 1945 but since the war ended in 1945 the ducks were never shipped overseas. Unfortunately many of the ducks that did go to war never came back. The ducks can hold 32 passengers. We cruised by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts, from the golden-domed State House to Bunker Hill and the Fleet Center, Boston Common and Copley Square to the Big Dig, Government Center to fashionable Newbury Street, Quincy Market to the Prudential Tower, past Cheers , the finish line for the Boston marathon and more. And then it is into the Charles River for a breathtaking view of the Boston and Cambridge skylines, the kind of view you just won't get anywhere else.

The Charles River

What we looked like on the river.

After the Duck unfortunately it was still raining. So we didn’t get to go to the top of the Prudential Center. Oh well, saved a couple of bucks I guess. So we decided to head back to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and get some lunch. We ate at Durgin Park. Took forever to get our food, I think it was the waiter’s first day on the job. After taking our order he took a deep breath and said “I can do this”. But the food was very good. Then it was off to do some souvenier shopping in Quincy Market. Then a stop at Sams Café at Cheers which is a replica of the bar as it appeared on the TV show. Tom Kershaw (the owner of the Bull & Finch) was tired of customers coming into the original Cheers and being disappointed because the bar was much smaller and nothing like than the one on the set of Cheers. There were many cool artifacts and pictures of the cast over the years. Need I say “photo op”. Then we grabbed a few things for the kids and decided to head back to the subway to head back to Weymouth.

Karen recommended a great little ice cream shop near her house. So we headed there and sampled some of the homemade ice cream. I had chocolate coconut almond and Michael had buttercrunch. We said hello to the cows and then decided it was time to go back to Karen’s and crash. Later that night we ordered Pizza and watched Monday night football and drank some Corona. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to David before heading to bed since he had to get up for work the next morning at 5:30 am. We would be on our own with Karen site seeing tomorrow in Plymouth and Hull......

Yummy ice cream.

You spoke too soon...I was still in the process of putting the pics in. You might have some ice cream left but I bet that bottle of wine is empty. :p

What a fun trip report so far Ms. Rubio! I don't remember Nerak starting a brawl at Hennessy's! I guess I was not sitting close enough to the epicenter! Oh well...my one regret is that I missed out on so much fun on Monday and Tuesday.

Love all your great pictures of the sights. Glad you guys had fun.

Too funny! With your sweet disposition Karen, I can't even believe you made somebody there mad! They must've been having a bad day to begin with. They need to loosen up a bit!
